Nate Diaz at UFC 141Nate Diaz defeated Gray Maynard by technical knockout in the main event of the TUF 18 Finale on Saturday night.

Diaz swarmed in on Maynard early in the fight, earning the stoppage at the 2:38 mark of the first round of their Las Vegas fight.

“I won, that’s what’s up,” Diaz said in his post-fight interview.

Maynard scored the early takedown, working to pass the guard thereafter. The two fighters scrambled and ultimately returned to the feet where it would soon end.

Diaz landed a left hand that dazed Maynard, and then he started to pour on the offense after that. Diaz landed punch after punch, pulverizing Maynard against the cage.

Following numerous strikes to Maynard’s head, referee Yves Lavigne put at stop to the contest, awarding Diaz a TKO stoppage.

Diaz repeatedly praised his teammates, including his brother Nick Diaz and longtime friend Gilbert Melendez, in his post-fight interview. When asked if he was going to move up to 170 pounds, Diaz proclaimed that he and Melendez were the two best in the lightweight division, calling out fellow 155-pound contender Josh Thomson in the process.

“We gonna beat your ass,” Diaz said.

With the win, Diaz improves his overall record to 17-9. Maynard drops to 11-3-1, 1 NC.

    that was AWESOME

Nate vs Khabib, TJ, or even Diego next would all be entertaining!!! If he moves up to WW then a fight with Gunner would be epic on the s*** talk alone!!! Or maybe a rematch with Rory ???

    • drkdisciple

Different weight class…Rory destroyed him the 1st time and the same thing would happen a 2nd time. I like Nate but he has no business figting at 170.

  • Big Tuna

    Diaz should fight Bendo

    • drkdisciple

He already did! Guess who took a beating?

  • dgs

Thank God, can’t stand Maynard and his ridiculous tramp stamp (what dude gets a tattoo like that, straight dude that is?). Diaz ran a boxing clinic on Maynard, and I enjoyed every second of it. The “Bully” got bullied! Goodbye Maynard, don’t let the door hit you on the way to the hospital.

The Diaz brothers are awesome, love those guys. They say what they mean, and mean what they say, and they back up their words with action. They are top athletes who have beaten the best in the world, and they’re stoners (like myself), gotta love it!

    • shakejunt

it’s cool to not be on board with tramp stamps, but sexuality is irrelevant. grow up.

      • Hugh Shakeshaft

It’s not the tramp stamp that gets me, it’s the butterfly on his chest and the rose on his ankle.

        • shakejunt

          that’s not what you said…

      • Kbroesq

You must be one of those really open-minded, tolerant people that I keep hearing about who insist that others must conform to their opinion or they are intolerant bigots. It’s funny to see how the hypocrisy is completely lost on people like you.

        • shakejunt

yes, i’m just so self-righteous that i needed to let him know the error of his ways.

wait, aren’t you one of those guys here that nobody likes?

  • Kenny Powers

Well, since Pettis is out, TJ is out, and Bendo’s fighting Thomson, let’s make Gilbert/Dos Anjos & Nate/Khabib.That should put LW back on track.

    • shakejunt

kinda feel like it should be the other way around, but that’s just because i don’t wanna listen to nate complain about getting smothered.

      • Kenny Powers

Yeah thats true, but u never know. Khabib is undefeated but he hasn’t fought any top competition yet. We’ll see how he fairs against the upper part of the division.

  • George Sperry

Looks like Maynard is done, Knocked out by Nate Diaz?

  • drkdisciple

Ever since changing camps Maynard does not look like the same fighter.

    • Hugh Shakeshaft

Mayard’s chin is turning to glass. May be time to retire.

  • bajafox

Fellow stoner relevant again, good win

  • Kthul

    A ridiculous stoppage!!!

Nate was dominating, he was close to victory no doubt.

Still the worst thing of the night was that Referee stoppage.

If there was something good in the UFC was the awesome comebacks we’ve seen.

So stopping the fight before there was AT LEAST A KNOCK DOWN, is to me the the worst thing for MMA. Soon It will get as boring as boxing, unless someone acts so that it won’t happen anymore.

Enough early stoppages by Refs and even worse Judges decisions.

Bad Ref decisions have been for a long time a serious problem, but THIS TIME, it was the bottom line. The guy was still standing when Yves Lavigne called the stop to it.
