Gray Maynard vs Nate DiazDespite losing the fight, The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale main eventer Gray Maynard topped the fighter salaries released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission to MMAWeekly.com on Monday.

Nate Diaz, who knocked Maynard out, was the next highest paid fighter on the payroll, drawing $30,000 for the victory over Maynard.

The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale took place Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas.

The following figures are based on the fighter salary information that promoters are required by law to submit to the state athletic commissions, including the winners’ bonuses.

Although mixed martial arts fighters do not have collective bargaining or a union, the fighters’ salaries are still public record, just as with every other major sport in the United States. Any undisclosed bonuses that a promoter also pays its fighters, but does not disclose to the athletic commissions (specifically, pay-per-view bonuses, fight of the night bonuses, etc.), are not included in the figures below.

Cheapest card in the history of the UFC.

    • bajafox

And we got some good fights from it too

      • Jay Mcgarrity

First true thing I’ve seen from you in a while. As I sit here contemplating the low probability that you are just being sarcastic…

        • bajafox

I must have missed the memo that said we were supposed to give a fk what you think

          • Jay Mcgarrity

you must give a fk considering you reply to 90% of my posts with nonsense, being anonymous gives people courage so I expect there to be at least one or two of you on every forum/msg board.

          • bajafox

I always answer my readers who agree with me, especially if it’s one that disagrees with me to the point they had to call me a c*nt.

Being anonymous gives people the courage to call someone a c*nt right hypocrite?

        • Griff

I really hope you didn’t sit there long contemplating. I hope it takes you much less time to figure out if I care in the least that you happen to agree or not with any post.

          • Jay Mcgarrity

Are you bajafox’s butt buddy or were you too stupid to figure out that I wasn’t talking to you? Another angry nerd sh*t talker, go get a diaper change.

  • JudoChopSuey

Whether Nate has more losses or is hated more for his antics or attitude, his pay scale is ridiculous. His polarity and abilities are two very good reasons to pay him more. He may not hype fights like a Chael Sonnen, but many people(me included) want to watch his fights. Maynard, should be asked to retire, he has no chin left thanks to Edgar, Grant, and Diaz. Maybe Chuck Liddel needs an assistant.

    • julian moran

Maynard took quite a lot of punches and was still standing, what is this no chin talk about?

      • JudoChopSuey

Please, I hope your not defending Maynards chin. Look at how he’s been k.o’d in past and now present fights, that’s all I’m saying. There’s k.o.’s then there are KTFO’s and he’s had a few too many. As for him having taken so many punches before the k.o….uh he was dead on his feet from that one punch and could never defend or recover it technically could have been stopped when he got rocked because he did nothing else to prevent further damage and the ref took his good time coming to his aid and stopping it. Hang em up GM!

      • andrew

maynard had no chin since he ko himslef from a takedown

  • Emanon

Those pay figures are rather lame.

  • J.D.C.D.

Damn… No wonder Nate still makes noise about fighter pay. With all the hours these fighters put in the gym plus the fights themselves they don’t get much money at all. I’ve read that the UFC takes care of fighters in other ways but man oh man still the $ per hour amounts to like nothing.

  • drkdisciple

You get what you pay for. Thought the card was weak and after watching the event thought most fights were horrible. With 50 events planned for next year expect more of the same for the free tv cards.

    • Jay Mcgarrity

The card was filled with TUF fighters and there were a couple bad match-ups with the girls IMO but what are you gonna do. All of the non TUF fights were good and had Blanco not been DQ’d, I bet that fight would’ve been good as well. Even a couple of the TUF fights were decent. It was only a 10 fight card with 1 DQ’d fight in the first but overall entertaining, just not a lot of big names.

  • Jay Mcgarrity

Nate was making 37/37 for a while and 50/50 for two fights after that. Now he’s had two fights in a row at 15/(speculated 15) and now 15/15. I really hope he got some kind of crazy signing bonus or something to make up for such low pay. Nate is in the top 10% in the UFC as far as draw goes imo and his pay is probably around the bottom 30% if I had to throw out a guess. Pay this man, gd…

Someone from the media should really get the cumquats out of their teeth and get some answers. Rather than asking the same dumb questions over and over, cover something that inquiring minds want to know. One of the media members at the post fight press conference asked when women’s would have their rankings posted on the UFC website, like really guy? The women’s rankings have been up for months now. Maybe I’ll spam DW’s twitter but still probably won’t get an answer.

    • vinnyjr

totally agree, Nate Diaz was the top draw on that card and is grossly underpaid. Total bull sh–. Nate should hold out or sign some where that pays him what he’s worth. I am shocked at his pay rate for the amount of years he’s been with the UFC. I have lost my respect for the UFC as a company, they put on great fights because of the fighters, 15,000 & 15,000, that is disrespecting the fighter, no wonder he wanted to go to his reunion. I don’t care if he lost 2 in a row before the Maynard fight, I think Maynard was also on a skid, both entered the UFC at same time. Nate needs to regroup, check out other MMA companies, I would bet there are a few that would love to have Nate Diaz kicking ass and putting fans in seats. The Diaz brothers are the most exciting fighters in MMA. Pay him.

  • julian moran

Nate Diaz is way under paid.

    • julian moran

new tuf fighters who did not make it to the top, get more then 1/2 what he gets.

      • jake snod

The Tuf Woman should have gotten $500 except Pena who did well. Racoczy maybe $50 as she stinks.

  • Shawn Walters

Wondering if Nate is still enjoying the “6-figure contract” that Dana brags about to every aspiring TUF winner. The only thing Dana doesn’t mention is that it is the lowest end of 6-figures….oh and…it is spread over many years; not one. As was already said, the fact that Pena made better than 50% of a seasoned, accomplished fighter like Diaz, in her first fight, is an absolute travesty. However I’m sure someone will question Dana about it and he will call them an idiot and go off in a tyraide of F-bombs and no one will even know what he said.

  • jake snod

Nate Diaz maybe goes home after expenses and other deductions with $16000. And it was a huge devastating KO win. Go drive a city bus join a union and make more.

  • jake snod

Out side of Diaz and Pena and Holdsworth this was a waste of time watching some terrible unskilled fighters stand there doing nothing. No careers for the others and TUF was a joke this whole season. Waste of air time.

  • Jay Mcgarrity

Saw an article on BJPenn’s site and it looks like cagepotato sent an email to Diaz’s manager Mike Kogan asking why he is being paid so little now and I guess they kind of received an answer.

Cause I suck as a manager lol

    Thank you

Interesting, seems like he left out some details but that’s the first answer I’ve seen to a question I’ve been asking since the Thompson fight.
