11-Travis-Browne-TUF-17-Finale-wTravis Browne (14-1-1) returned to winning ways in the UFC Octagon with a 1:11 first-round knockout over Gabriel Gonzaga (14-7) on the main card at the TUF 17 Finale from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Browne missed with a high kick off the opening bell. Gonzaga pounced pushing Browne up against the cage looking for the single leg takedown, but Browne was able to connect with a series of elbows to the head of Gonzaga, who hit the mat.

“I gotta show these young bucks how to make their bonuses,” Browne said. “He did exactly as I thought he would do, he just did it a little bit quicker. He shot in off my left kick, his head was there my elbow was straight. I’m a mixed martial artist, I’m not a stand-up guy. Try and take me down.”

The victory was Browne’s 14th of his career after coming off a loss to Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in his previous fight at UFC on FX 5.

Anyone else think at least two of those elbows were to the back of the head? No doubt he delivered amazing power from such a position but some of those elbows were of questionable legality.

The first couple seemed legal, then there was one big shot when Gonzaga turned his head. Since he was aiming for the side of the head and Gonzaga turned into it they’d probably let that one slide. The last couple looked like 12 to 6 elbows though. I don’t see it being overturned but I don’t think I’d argue if it was

Dude i watched the fight in Spanish and for sure thought Brown was gonna get DQed. I was shocked when he got the win. A few were good but i saw at least three that were straight to the back of the head right when Gonzaga went limp..

Was the fight different in spanish?

Those were brutal shots to the back of Gonzo’s head. He may have crumbled before those shots, but if Bones can be stripped of a win for illegal elbows, Browne should too

I thought just one (like Advance said, the 3rd shot) was clearly to the back of the head, while Gonz was in the process of crumpling to the ground. But imho, he was out when it landed, and even if he had been warned, the fight was done. I guess it’s an eye-of-the-beholder situation, but only one was clearly blatant to me, and it was after he was out, the way I saw it. Browne is a growing beast…at 6’6/7″ and 239 with the obvious speed he has from playing b’ball, the kid is getting better and better. A little cocky for my liking, but an up-and-coming fighter to be reckoned with.

Obvious for a blind man he was getting hit in the back of the head and referee doesnt do anything cuz he sucks ass, feel bad for gonzaga didnt deserve to get beat like this, not fair at all

The one that dropped him was directly to the back of the head. The first two were legal, but they also weren’t the ones that dropped Gonzaga. The first illegal elbow was the one that did the damage.
