Top 10 ranked 145-pounder Michihiro Omigawa has been tapped to face WEC veteran Cole Escovedo at Dream 16. Omigawa had been rumored in a match-up with Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren, but that pairing never materialized.
Omigawa (11-8-1) enters the bout after a submission victory over Young Sam Jung at Dream 15, while Escovedo (16-5) tries to bounce back
from a loss to new WEC signee Michael MacDonald at Tachi Palace Fights 5.
Two more WEC veterans, Hiroyuki Takaya (13-8-1) and Chase Beebe (13-6), will square off at Dream 16. Takaya is hot on the heels of a huge knockout victory over Joachim Hansen, who also fights on this card. style=”mso-spacerun: yes”> Beebe, a former WEC champion, got back on track with a victory in April after suffering through a five-fight skid that included the loss of his WEC bantamweight belt.
Dream third featherweight announcement on Monday pits Japanese veterans Mitsuhiro Ishida (19-6-1) and Akiyo “Wicky” Nishiura (11-5-1) against one another. Ishida recently won his featherweight debut at Dream 15, dropping to 145 pounds following a loss to current Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Martinez. Nishiura is coming off of a first-round TKO finish of Hideo Tokoro.
Dream 16 also features a middleweight showdown between Kazushi Sakuraba and Jason “Mayhem” Miller.
