Travis Browne vs. Bigfoot Silva Headlines New UFC on FX 5 Card

Posted on by MMAWeekly.com Staff

Indianapolis’ loss is Minneapolis’ gain.

The UFC on FX 5 card originally scheduled for Sept in Indiana has now shifted to Oct 5 in Minnesota and two big heavyweights will be leading the way.

UFC officials announced on Friday that Travis Browne would face former Strikeforce heavyweight Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva at UFC on FX 5 now scheduled for the Target Center in Minneapolis.

Originally scheduled to fight at next weekend’s UFC on Fox 4 card, Travis Browne was pulled at the last minute when opponent Ben Rothwell was forced off the card with an ankle injury.

Now the Hawaiian who trains under coach Greg Jackson will look to extend his undefeated streak when he faces Silva in October.

Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva will hope for a better Octagon experience in his second trip to the UFC after a tough loss in his debut.

Silva stepped in on short notice to face former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 146 in May and got bludgeoned with strikes, bloodied up and finished in the first round.

It was Silva’s second loss in a row overall so now the big Brazilian will look to get back on track when he faces Browne in October.

More fights for the upcoming UFC on FX 5 card will be announced in the coming weeks.

I’m not sure about the quality of the opponents that Travis has faced. But then again, the same can be said about Silva until he face Cormier and Cain.

i AM A BIG FAN OF TRAVIS bROWNE, FOR SUCH A BIG MAN HEIGHT WISE HE MOVES EXCEPTIONALLY WELL AND EVERY FIGHT i SEE HIM IN HE SHOWS THAT HE HAS ADDED MORE STRINGS TO HIS BOW, i THINK THIS IS A GOOD FIGHT FOR HIM AND bIG fOOT ALIKE AS WE WILL SEE IF bROWNE IS WHAT HE APPEARS TO BE AND IF biGFOOT WILL BE ANY SORT OF FORCE IN THE UFC OR WILL BE ANOTHER GATEWAY FIGHTER THAT THE YOUNG OR NEW HW’S HAVE TO GO THROUGH, IF bROWNE WINS THIS i WOULD ACTUALLY LIKE TO SEE HIM REMATCH sTRUVE NOW THAT sTRUVE Has started to bulk out his frame, I think Struve is very underrated he fights whomever he is matched with and is still very young as fighters go and very big people always develop their what i shall term full mature man power a little later than smaller or more normal sized people. someone also needs to pull him aside and teach him not to go backwards with his chin up he needs to tuck his chin or forever be knocked out by the Dos Santos’s, Nelsons, Brownes even the Hunts as his height means the looping overhand right or left will always land on his chin, ND i DO NOT CARE WHOM YOU ARE YOU ONLY HAVE SO MANY TOUGH FIGHTS OR LIGHTS OUT IN YOUR LIFE, THEN THE LIGHTS OUT ALWAYS COMES MORE EASY JUST ASK BIG NOG wANDERLEI, tITO, lIDELL, cOUTURE AND SO MANY OF THE GREAT BOXERS WHO JUST DON’T KNOW WHEN ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, cOUTURE DID AND i THINK TO AN EXTENT EVEN THE MIGHTY CHUCK DID AND ALL THE LEGENDS LIKE MATT hUGHES, B j PENN( EVEN THOU I BELIEVE IF bJ HAD NOT STEPPED OUT OF HIS WEIGHT CLASS ALL TO OFTEN) AS WITH ALOT OF UFC FIGHTERS FORCED TO FIGHT MUCH NATURALLY BIGGER MEN AS THEIR WEIGHT CLASS DID NOT EXIST WHICH I’M HAPPY THE NEW DIVISIONS ARE THEIR, ALSO i THINK THE UFC SHOULD HAVE A division above heavy weight an open weight class ie where I used to fight in super heavyweight but unlike Mauy Thai or Kickboxing whereby everything over 95.5kg or 210 pounds is classed as super heavy weight. the current heavy weight cutoff is 265 pounds or my weight 120kg, but I think we will continue to see the 230-240 pounders continue to dominate the hw scene as they still possess the speed that goes with the power and as we all know speed+mass=total power, if we haD THE SUPER HW’S AS PEOPLE MORE THE 120KG YOU ARE STILL GOING TO HAVE THE ODD FREAK THAT HAS THE SIZE AND SPEED BUT YOU WILL SEE BEHEMOTH’S THAT NO MATTER HOW HARD THEY TRIED WOULD FIND IT DIFFICULT TO CUT TO 120, oVEREEM’S NON ENHANCED YOUNG FRIEND WHOM IS 7’2 AND WELL OVER 300 POUNDS WE WILL NEVER SEE HIM IN THE UFC OR PEOPLE LIKE k1 FIGHTER sEMMY SCHILT 6’11 AND 130 AND PEOPLE LIKE THESE ARE NOT JUST FREAK ENTERTAINMENT VALUE LIKE, hONG mAN cHOI OR bOB sAPP BUT BONAFIED MARTIAL TALENTS, EVEN BROCK OH SHIT THAT’S WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE PUNCHED FOR REAL BY SOMEONE ALMOST AS BIG AS ME lESNAR WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO CUT ALMOST 40 POUNDS OR 18KG, TO FIGHT AS A hW AND hW’S LIKE fRANK mIR AND OTHERS WOULD NOT FEEL THAT THEY HAVE TO BULK UP TO FIGHT PEOPLE LIKE lESNAR AND EVEN cARWIN JUST A THOUGHT THE SPORT IS STILL IN IT’S INFANCY AND CAN GROW IN SO MANY MORE DIRECTIONS.
