Although two title fights are being featured at
Saturday’s Extreme Challenge 64 event at Terrible’s Lakeside Casino,
another bout on the card is drawing a lot of attention.
Josh Neer (14-2-1) hopes a win over Nick Thompson (20-8-1) will draw the attention of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and earn him a return to the “big show.” Meanwhile, Thompson is counting on a win
over the local favorite gaining him his first UFC shot.
Both fighters are deserving. Neer had a 10-fight win streak snapped by Drew Fickett at UFC Fight
Night 1 in August, but returned to Las Vegas to beat tough Forrest Petz the following month. A win over Thompson should cement a return visit to the UFC.
Thompson is unbeaten since dropping to 170 pounds and is riding a 4-bout win streak that includes an 8-man tournament win last month in Biloxi, Miss. A win over Neer would make Thompson a definite UFC contender.
“It’s not the main event, but the Neer-Thompson fight certainly could be the fight of the night,” said Extreme Challenge promoter Monte Cox. “Both fighters are blue-collar types who know how to finishopponents. The winner certainly deserves a chance to show his skills at
the higher level.”
The main events for EC 64 feature the return of Jason Black (18-0-1) as he tries to win the Extreme Challenge welterweight championship in a bout with veteran Kyle Jensen (32-8). In another title bout, Rich Clementi (23-9) faces Chris Mickle (12-3-1) for the Extreme Challenge
