Tito-Ortiz-UFC-148-Pre-Press-9081-478x270Tito Ortiz will return from injury and face Bellator middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko in a light heavyweight fight on pay-per-view, the fighters announced on Friday night.

Shlemenko agreed to come up to 205 pounds to fight Ortiz the company’s May 17 event in Memphis, Tenn.

Ortiz (16-11-1) said he was recently cleared by his doctors to compete, after a hairline fracture in his neck sidelined him from making his Bellator debut last November.

A former UFC light heavyweight champion, Ortiz was scheduled to face his friend and fellow former champ, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, but the injury put a stop to that fight happening.

Ortiz hasn’t fought since July of 2012, and his last professional win came a year before.

Shlemenko (50-7) hasn’t lost since 2010, and won the Bellator 185-pound title in February of 2013. The Russian fighter has won 13 consecutive fights since dropping a unanimous decision to Hector Lombard.

Bellator 120 will also feature a third fight between Eddie Alvarez and Mike Chandler for the company’s lightweight title, as well as a light heavyweight tilt between Rampage and King Mo Lawal.

  • bajafox

Big fan of Tito the person, but as a fighter, hang them up man. I will not be paying one single cent towards this PPV. PPV’s should not be headed by fighters who aren’t even ranked

  • The snake

It’s gotta be a huge blow to your ego when most people expect you to pull out do to injury or make injury excuses after you lose

    • Seth

He doesn’t give a f. He just wants his paycheck and opportunity to whine how UFC screwed him and how Dana is a devil who almost destroyed his life. That’s all.

  • Piotr

Why do they think anyone will pay money to watch Tito fight anyone at this point?

  • Lawdog1521

    What, was Ken Shammrock busy?

  • Kryptonitekid

Who the hell would pay money to see Tito make excuses, I mean…. fight?

  • The Gueedster

I bet Jenna’s reastbeef wings are bigger than Tito’s balls.

  • BobLemons

Did any see them face off? Tito looked more than one weight class above him…
