It appears that a UFC light heavyweight match-up between former champion Tito Ortiz and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will headline UFC Fight Night 24 on March 26, an event expected to serve as build up to Season 13 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” which begins on March 30.
Originally expected for UFC 128 in New Jersey, Ortiz hinted at the move via his official Twitter account Tuesday morning, when he posted, “Big news, I’m not fighting in New Jersey, but I am still fighting L’il Nog in March.”
MMAWeekly.com has since been able to confirm the bout’s move into the UFC Fight Night 24 headline spot, which was first reported by MMAJunkie.com.
UFC president Dana White surprised everyone in November when he confirmed that Ortiz and Nogueira would fight in March. Ortiz has gone winless in his last five fights – four losses and one draw – for the only fight promotion that he has ever called home.
Formerly one of the most dominant champions the UFC has known, Ortiz is on his last leg with the promotion.
“I thought I was gonna cut him, too,” White told MMAWeekly.com, when posed with the idea that most people thought Ortiz would be cut loose after losing to Matt Hamill at UFC 121.
“Tito said, ‘I’m not done,’” White added. “And he asked me for one more chance, so I’m gonna do it.
“This is definitely his last chance. And he knows that, too.”
UFC Fight Night 24 is expected to take place in Seattle.
