A broadcast deal with CBS Sports Network coupled with a growing stable of veteran and up-and-coming talent have helped establish Titan FC as one of the premier MMA promotions in America.
Speaking to MMAWeekly.com just days out from his promotion’s upcoming Sept. 26 show in Cedar Park, Texas, Aronson discussed recent acquisitions, his company’s growth, and what to look for at TFC 30.
MMAWeekly.com: Firstly, Jeff, Titan FC has just signed some new talent. Can you tell us about who is joining the promotion?
Jeff Aronson: We just officially signed Jacob Noe from Bellator. We signed Ken Hasegawa, who is the DEEP heavyweight champion, and will be making his TFC debut in October at light-heavyweight. We signed Dave Courchaine from the XFC, who has won 11 of his last 12 fights. So it’s been a super busy time for us.
MMAWeekly.com: It appears that the promotion has picked up a lot of momentum of late.
Jeff Aronson: The momentum that Titan has picked up is incredible. Our next seven shows are locked and booked in. it’s really every day something new.
We have a 9/26 in Cedar Park, Texas; 10/31 is Tampa, Fla.; 11/20 is Augusta, Ga.; 12/19 we’ve not decided on the venue yet; 1/23 is Indiana University in Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia; 2/19 we haven’t signed a venue yet, but we’re doing it that night; and 3/20 is the huge Mobile Aerofest in Alabama.
We’re booking our venues way out in advance now, and building the cards one month after another is a tremendous growing challenge and fantastic opportunity. Needless to say, the whole team at Titan is working non-stop signing the best free agents and prospects in the country and bringing them together. It’s been a tremendous undertaking and very gratifying.
MMAWeekly.com: Tell us about what fans can expect to see on the upcoming Cedar Park show on Sept. 26.
Jeff Aronson: The upcoming event is very exciting because it’s the first time we’re crowning a champion with Vinny Magalhaes versus Jason Brilz for the light-heavyweight title. I think that’s spectacular. We also have Walel Watson fighting Anthony “Sharkbait” Gutierrez from TUF, which is a fantastic match-up. “Tonino Furia” (Gleristone Santos) will be fighting Robert Washington in a title eliminator fight, with the winner facing Kurt Holobaugh for the featherweight championship.
MMAWeekly.com: How important is it to the growth of TFC to crown champions?
Jeff Aronson: It’s massively important. When I took over Titan, I totally dismantled it and rebuilt it from scratch, even though they had 26 events under their belt. So now, establishing faces for the promotion is so important. It’s a constant evolution and progression, and we’re creating our own identity every day.
MMAWeekly.com: Thanks for taking time out for us, Jeff. Is there anything you would like to say in closing?
Jeff Aronson: I think this event in Cedar Park is just going to be absolutely amazing. There are 14 fights on this card and we’re actually doing a two-hour live stream for the prelims on CBSSports.com, which we’ve never done. It’s just getting bigger and more intense. CBS and the sponsors have been so behind us. I think we’ve staked our claim as one of the top four MMA promotions in the U.S. with our network deal. I couldn’t be happier with the way the promotion is progressing.
