The June 6 card was without a main event for about a week after Daniel Cormier was pulled from the original headlining bout with Ryan Bader. That happened after UFC officials decided to indefinitely suspend and strip now-former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones of his belt last week. With Jones out of his title defense against Anthony Johnson, the promotion slotted Cormier in his place in a battle for what is now the vacant 205-pound title.
Boetsch vs. Henderson was already a feature bout on the main card, but takes top billing when there was no suitable replacement to face Bader, who is one of the top contender’s in the light heavyweight division. In announcing the new headliner, UFC officials said that Bader’s next fight would be addressed on a future card, but did not say if he might get a shot at the winner of Johnson vs. Cormier.
In addition to Boetsch vs. Henderson as the new headliner, the UFC made a heavyweight battle between Ben Rothwell and Matt Mitrione the co-main event for the New Orleans fight card. The event will take place on June 6 at the Smoothie King Center.
