MMAWeekly LIVE in California

MMAWeekly
is on location in Beverly Hills, Calif. for tonight’s “Strikeforce at the
Mansion” show. Strikeforce makes history tonight with the first mixed martial
arts event ever at Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner’s home.

Following
Friday’s weigh-ins, both Gilbert Melendez and Josh Thomson, two of the more
popular fighters competing at the mansion, spoke with MMAWeekly about their
respective bouts.

Melendez is
one of the fighters that found himself in limbo for most of the past year. When
the Fertitta brothers purchased the Pride Fighting Championships from Dream
Stage Entertainment, Melendez, like many other, ended up playing the waiting
game as he was under contract to Pride.

The number
three-ranked lightweight fighter in the world, Melendez sat out for the past
nine months, in his words “working for free” as he never stopped training.

He’ll
finally get his chance to really get back to work when he steps into the
Strikeforce cage against Tetsuji Kato.

Thomson has
managed to stay a little bit busier than Melendez, having fought on another
Strikeforce event early in the summer.

He has,
however, made a few adjustments to his training regime and is ready to test out
the effects tonight when he faces International Fight League veteran Adam Lynn.
