Following an injury, Thiago Alves has been cleared to start wrestling again and he plans to return to the Octagon in December, according to a report on Wednesday afternoon.
Additionally, upon returning to active UFC competition, Alves said he wants to face the winner of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night Tulsa co-main event between Mike Pyle and Jordan Mein. The news was first reported on the FOX Sports 1 program, UFC Tonight.
Alves was scheduled to face Mein on this weekend’s Tulsa, Okla. card, but was forced out of the fight due to hurting his knee in the weeks leading into the bout.
In his last outing, the former No. 1 welterweight contender fought Seth Baczynski, winning a unanimous decision. The fight against Baczynski was Alves’ first in over two years, as injuries plagued and kept him from competing from 2012 until earlier this year.
A December return currently lands Alves on one of two cards: UFC 181 on Dec. 6 or UFC on FOX 13 on Dec. 13.
