Thiago-Alves-UFC-117_5865-460x270An injury has forced UFC welterweight Thiago Alves off of the Aug. 17 UFC on Fox Sports 1 fight card in Boston.

UFC officials made the announcement on Wednesday.

Alves (19-9) was scheduled to face Matt Brown (17-11) on the main card portion of the event.  Mike Pyle has been named as Alves’ replacement.

Pyle (25-8-1) last competed on May 25 at UFC 160, winning a split decision over Rick Story.  He is currently riding a four-fight winning streak.

Brown is on a winning streak of his own, stringing together five consecutive wins inside the Octagon.  He has finished four of his last five opponents.

UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen takes place at the TD Garden in Boston on Aug. 17. It is headlined by a light heavyweight match-up between former titleholder Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Chael Sonnen.  Heavyweight contenders Alistair Overeem and Travis Browne face off in the co-main event.

This card is a wreck already, are you kidding me. If Sonnen or Reem pull out I’m not even going to care for it.

Those two guys have been around a long time and are awesome. The other fights are good but I was looking forward to see Thiago return.

Damn I don’t want to see either one lose. Should be an awesome, fan friendly fight though.

Got to love the crafty veteran Mike Pyle. Whenever he fights I get really nervous for him.

I feel pretty strongly that Pyle lost his last fight. I think Brown takes this.
