Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate TUF 18 CoachesPoor dieting choices and mismanagement of weight has already cost one contestant on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate his shot at a six-figure UFC contract. During this week’s episode, another male fighter fails to make weight and is kicked off the show. Coaches Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate went head-to-head in a rock wall climbing contest in the coaches’ challenge.

The Coaches’ Challenge

Rousey and Tate were brought to the Mandalay Bay Events Center where two identical rock walls were set up. The two would race to the top and ring a bell in the coaches’ challenge.

The two were neck-and-neck half way up with wall with $10,000 on the line. Rousey pulled ahead at the end, winning the challenge and securing each member of her team $1,500. As she rung the bell, Rousey gave her rival two middle fingers and yelled expletives.

“It’s unfortunate. I kind of feel like I let my team down,” said Coach Tate.

“To be able to help out my team, it touches me more than anything else. Their gain is more than my personal gain,” said Coach Rousey after winning the challenge. “And I just like Miesha being in the habit of always getting beaten by me.”

The Scales Move to 2-0

During the season’s third episode, following the first male match-up, Team Tate’s nutritionist Eric Triliegi said, “That’s what you get for eating biscuits for breakfast,” after Chris Holdsworth defeated Team Rousey’s Chris Beal. Looking back on it, that quote was foreshadowing of what was to come.

Team Tate’s Cody Bollinger was scheduled to face Anthony Gutierrez but failed to make weight in the ninth episode of the season. He was unceremoniously kicked off the show by UFC president Dana White. This week, it was Gutierrez that found himself being shown the exit door.

Gutierrez Misses Weight

Gutierrez’ poor diet has been chronicled throughout the season. His ability to consume junk food and still make weight was something he took pride in.

“Everybody is different as far as what they eat and things like that. I eat pretty much whatever I want. But what’s funny to me is when people start judging – like they look with these narrow eyes brows and this chin up like, what’s going on over here? What is he eating? I do not approve of this because if I ate the piece of pepperoni I would not be to run on the treadmill that long,” said Gutierrez.

“I think deep down inside it’s really that they’re jealous that they wish they’d be eating those things. But I choose to eat those things and work just as hard if not harder,” he continued. “I also perform well. And I make the weight. So I like my style a little bit better. I can enjoy life and train like a professional and fight like a professional.”

Gutierrez would prove himself wrong days later when he struggled to get his weight under control.

“Anthony has a little problem maintaining his weight,” said Coach Rousey. “And it’s difficult to experience all of this and everyone deals with it in their own way. I think Anthony’s way of dealing with it is a detriment to him.”

“Ronda pulls me aside today and starts asking what I’ve been eating. I eat healthy foods and I eat (expletive) foods, and my cardio is the best on our team out of the guys,” said Gutierrez. “I feel like I’m getting way too much heat. I just want people to shut up and mind their own business.”

On the morning of weigh-in day, Gutierrez stepped on the scales weighing 145.5 pounds. As the weigh-ins drew closer, it became apparent that he might not make it. 2 hours prior to weigh-ins, he was at 143-pounds. When he stepped on the scales for the official weigh-ins, Gutierrez was four-pounds over the allowed limit and given an hour to drop the pounds.

“I know he won’t quit,” said Coach Rousey, but she overestimated her fighter. Gutierrez eventually broke mentally and quit.

White came to the gym to hear the news first hand. “You want to say anything,” asked the UFC president.

“The last five days I didn’t act right. My priorities weren’t right. Discipline wasn’t there, and I’ve never been this embarrassed in my entire life,” said Gutierrez.

“You didn’t even have to fight. You got a pass. You were one fight away from going to the finale. It’s crazy. This is the craziest one ever. Leave,” said White. “So we’ve got a forfeit. He (David Grant) gets a bye to the next round.”

Coach Rousey went to White and said she was going to make weight tomorrow to show her team that it could be done. She felt responsible for one of her fighters missing weight.

“He doesn’t have the (expletive) heart,” said White. “It has nothing to do with you. He knows why he came here. He knows what was at stake. And you can’t give people that thing that you have and every other (expletive) guy in the company has, and girl. You can’t give that to that kid. He doesn’t (expletive) have it. “

“He is (expletive) weak,” added White.

The Male Final is Set

With Gutierrez missing weight, David Grant advances to the finals via forfeit. He’ll face Team Tate’s Chris Holdsworth on Nov. 30 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Funny thing is when he was going to fight bollinger, I don’t think he would have made weight either. It would have been funny if they both got kicked off the show at the same time. Wasted opportunity

    • Mike mckinney

He made weight the first time. Both fighters weigh in reguardless of whether one fails.

      • King_DG

really?! is there a video of him making weight? because I watched the episode and it didn’t show them weighing in.

        • Maddawgmar

As he was talking to Dana, he told him since hewas on weight he had the opportunity to choose free pass or rehydrate and cut again on Monday. So I’m sure they knew where his weight was even though there wasn’t an official weigh in

        • Mike mckinney

You’re right. It’s not that I saw video of him making weight. It’s just how weigh ins work. Whether he makes weight or not he must step on the scale. Had he not weighed in at all he would be dqed while the other guy got his hour. What your opponent does doesn’t matter. You must weigh in.

    • jake snod

Anthony and Bollinger are both losers in life no hope or no futures

      • Pat Garret

The guy Cody Bollinger, just sign a 6 figure contract with Wsof. What have u done??? That’s what I thought son…

        • bajafox

          • TrentSki

            Look whos talking

          • bajafox

            Good movie

          • TrentSki

            It was ok
            You got a job yet?

        • jake snod

repeat Cody Bollinger is a low loser looks like a criminal and has few brains. what the hell is the Wsof. Kid has nothing to offer life but losing.

  • tara

rousey is an embarrassment to womens mma. she’s a bully. time to trade in for a new posterchild dana. any coincidence why strawweight is coming to ufc…hmmm.

    • Maddawgmar

Call me crazy, but I kinda like how Ronda will not smile to your face then talk behind your back type.

      • Advance*

That’s just the same BS excuse she uses. There’s a difference between “not smiling in your face” and flipping you off and acting like a complete prick. It’s called having class and integrity. Miesha obviously hates Ronda but she can manage to keep it together and be a good influence for her team and fans.

        • Maddawgmar

But how boring would this season be if there wasn’t that brashness. I don’t know about you but that Jones/Sonnen season was boring to me. If she was like this to every single person then I can see your points and agree. But it is just to this one person. She wasn’t like this to Kaufman or to Carmouche. Everyone has that one person they just can’t stand.

          • Jay Mcgarrity

From the fighters and fights to Chaels elite words of wisdom, that season was one of the best. How dare you call Chael’s season boring, this season is putting me to sleep. Even with the Ronda and Miesha drama, other seasons have much more drama going on in the house. This season has two missing fights, low key drama, terrible coaches challenge, hardly any cool guest appearances, and that’s just off the top of my head. The only redeeming factors of this season were the female addition as well as some pretty well contended fights.

          • Maddawgmar

I’m not contending that this season is not boring, but it would be more boring if there wasn’t this tension between Meisha and Ronda. And the fights were boring as hell in the season with Chael, with the exception of Uriah Hall and Kelvin. Plus I like Chaels brash behavior, and was disappointed that we didn’t get to see it.

          • Jay Mcgarrity

Chael’s season is still my favorite in a while, I thought there were a lot good fights and not just by Uriah and Kelvin. Off the top of my head, Andrews and Luke both had exciting fights. It’s hard to recall all of the fighters and fights but I believe there were others. That guy Tor looked great in the finale fight, even looked good in his last fight while coming up a little short and losing.

    • jake snod

Rousey is a low class tramp crude and vile and is not a champion nor a role model. throw the slob out of the UFC.

      • Ferrando

You can’t throw out out a fighter for being a jerk (Anderson Silva, anyone?) You just have to hope that someone better comes along and whips their butt.

  • Jay Mcgarrity

Another fight we miss out on due to failures missing weight. The coaches challenge was the shortest and dullest one ever, I honestly can’t remember one that was worse. With a coaches challenge, a semi final fight, and something that has never before happened in TUF, it looked to be a promising episode. Too bad the never before event was that the semi final fight wasn’t going to happen, I honestly felt a little cheated watching that episode. I can’t even believe that people are saying this is the most exciting season, even with the excitement of the women’s addition it falls short IMO.

  • Mike mckinney

It would have been funny if Tate was there to tell Rhonda it was her fault her fighter quit on her. Rhonda certainly got caught with her foot in her mouth on that one. Lol

    • BarrysHypocrisy

You can bet your a$$ that if one of Tate’s fighters hadn’t made weight, Rousey would have been there to rub her face in it.

      • Mike mckinney

That already happened. Rhonda pretty much blamed Tate and said she would never let that happen as a coach.

Anyway, that’s what the UFC gets for having unnatural weight classes.

        • Ferrando

There’s nothing wrong with the weight classes. Every fighter tries to fight in the smallest class they can get away with without killing themselves to make the cut.

  • jake snod

Just a waste of time waiting an hour to see some wimp miss weight again. stop feeding these mini midgets like slobs and pigs and make them eat bean sprouts to make weight. TUF is a joke this season.

    • Ferrando

Why should the UFC be the food police, especially when the other people still in the house don’t have to cut anymore? Having the discipline to make weight is just as important as the rest of the training. I do agree that the episode was a waste. They could have just said, “Anthony forfeits, now here’s the ladies fight.”

  • jake snod

Rousey flipping mulitple fingers at Tate on National TV was classless and disgusting. speaks volumes what a loser Rousey is.

  • jake snod

Not sure why Dana permits his woman’s champ Rousey to swear and flip nasty fingers and spew hatred and vile comments on national TV. Kind of disgusting

  • bajafox

Several times Rousey allowed Anthony to eat whatever he wanted with small warnings. Amazing how it came back to bite her on the ass after she talked so much crap about Tate not doing everything she could. No surprise she lost to Tate in the EA UFC cover game, her reputation is in the toilet when you can’t win a video game popularity contest

    • Jay Mcgarrity

Ronda did come off looking like an idiot but talking about the stupid video game cover vote…. You are given unlimited votes on that stupid thing, like Dana said, Brian Caraway was probably at his computer for hours on end clicking away. Miesha was campaigning hard on twitter too and asking people to mindless drone it up for her while I didn’t see any tweets from Ronda or any of her team trying to encourage votes. One of Miesha’s twitter followers even said for a retweet they would spend hours voting for her and Miesha retweeted the person’s garbage tweet. While I do agree that Ronda comes off looking like an idiot, at least she stayed consistent and took the blame for Anthony missing weight.

  • jake snod

Anthony ate himself out of a career which is funny.

    • Jay Mcgarrity

Pretty funny how he talked sh*t while doing it too, they really made him look like a clown in this ep.

    • drkdisciple

career? doubt it…the guy was a loser from day 1 and I seriously doubt his career would be a long one. Perhaps a prelim fighter that would get his a** canned after a fight or two.

  • Ferrando

So he was trusting the $10 IKEA bathroom scale at the house instead of the scale at the gym?

  • jake snod

I thought the woman would screw upTUF but here it was the 2 top guys who were the deadbeat losers and disgraced themselves and the show. Bollinger the tattoed Nazi role model and fake Anthony the commerical kid.

  • jake snod

A UFC Champion is supposed to be a role model and respected. Rousey ain’t.

  • knockout67

Rhonda Rousey what a piece of trash..

  • jake snod

Young children watching a hateful disgusting Rousey swearing and flipping the bird are wondering is this how a champion acts?

    • El Gvapo

Oh shut up man, your sensational tabloid-style statements are just tedious. I don’t like Rousey either, but the old “won’t somebody think of the children” schtick is really scraping the barrel.

      • jake snod

        is that you edmond?

        • El Gvapo

No it’s not Edmond. Is that you Helen Lovejoy?

  • jake snod

    This season’s TUF sucked.

  • dolce

Gutierrez had the nerve to talk smack to Fisette and say he was the weakest in the house, despite working his ass off and taking care of himself to make weight (also seems like a cool dude)… and he couldn’t make weight despite his free pass! NO ONE should feel sympathy for this dude
