Hot off the heels of UFC 54 in Las Vegas, everyone is starting to look forward to UFC 55 at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. As the fight card is starting to shape up, both Evan Tanner and David Loiseau confirmed to MMAWeekly that they have signed to fight each other on that card.
After losing successive bouts to Jorge Rivera and Jeremy Horn in late 2003 and early 2004 respectively, David Loiseau has put together an impressive string of four consecutive victories. In that run, he has knocked out three of his four opponents, including two in the UFC. With momentum on his side, Loiseau’s confidence is building and he is excited to be facing Evan Tanner and taking another step towards a shot at the middleweight title.
Across the Octagon will be Tanner, who was also on an impressive win streak. After losing to Rich Franklin more than two years ago, Tanner won back-to-back bouts with Phil Baroni and followed up by defeating Robbie Lawler and then David Terrell for the UFC Middleweight Championship.
Holding the belt wasn’t to be for Tanner as he again ran into Rich Franklin and again came up on the losing end, thus relinquishing his title. Always one to continue his journey through the sport, Tanner has signed to make a quick return to the ring against Loiseau.
Tanner has a lot of respect for Loiseau’s athletic ability and his striking game and is looking forward to the challenge and continuing as a contender in the UFC middleweight division.
