Sources close to the match-up confirmed the new bout to MMAWeekly.com on Monday with verbal agreements in place for the fight.
Mizugaki will fight at home in Japan for the first time since 2008 in his last bout before moving to the WEC and ultimately the UFC.
He is coming off a blistering win in his last fight where he knocked out former WEC champion Cole Escovedo in the second round of their fight at UFC 135.
Stepping into the lion’s den to meet Mizugaki on his home turf will be three-time UFC veteran Chris Cariaso, fresh off a win at UFC 138 where he defeated Vaughan Lee by split decision. Cariaso is no stranger to fighting in someone else’s home country after facing Lee in his native England for his last bout in the Octagon.
Now Cariaso will travel across the ocean once again as he meets Mizugaki in Japan as part of the UFC 144 card taking place at Saitama Super Arena in February.
