Mike Swick will make his official debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight division when he faces Josh Burkman on Jan. 23 at UFC Fight Night 12.
Swick has long been waiting for his debut in the 170-pound weight class since his loss to Yushin Okami at middleweight all the way back in April of this year.
The American Kickboxing Academy standout was originally slated to make his return in September against Jonathan Goulet, but an injury forced Swick off the card.
Now healthy and ready to fight, he will test himself against another “Ultimate Fighter” alum as he faces Burkman.
Burkman is coming off of a split decision win over Forrest Petz at UFC 77 in Cincinnati. A win over Swick would be a big step forward for him in the ever-growing welterweight division.
Training full time in Utah, Burkman will face a very tough competitor in Swick, who presents a dangerous opponent for any welterweight with his reach and solid stand-up.
UFC president Dana White confirmed the event, but no bouts have been officially announced by the promotion and a location has yet to be determined.
Rumored bouts for UFC Fight Night 12 thus far include:
-Josh Burkman vs. Mike Swick
-Thiago Tavares vs. Michihiro Omigawa
-Patrick Cote vs. Drew McFedries
-Kurt Pellegrino vs. Alberto Crane
-Cole Miller vs. Jeremy Stephens
-Matt Wiman vs. Justin Buccholz
