UFC Officially Announces Two More Fights For Hughes vs. Gracie Card

Swick To Battle Joe Riggs, Diego Sanchez Returns To Face John Alessio

As May 27th draws closer, the UFC has started to reveal more of the undercard for UFC 60, which will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California and will feature the main event of Matt Hughes vs. Royce Gracie.

With the heavyweight battle between Brandon “The Truth” Vera and Assuerio Silva already announced, the UFC set up two potentially great match-ups in the middleweight and welterweight divisions, respectively.

Mike Swick will step back into the octagon at UFC 60 and face off against possibly his toughest opponent to date when Joe “Diesel” Riggs moves back up to 185 pounds to take on the former reality show star.

Swick has garnered the nickname “Quick” as of late because of his speedy disposals of recent opponents, but Riggs is one fighter that will not likely go down quite so easily. Riggs is extremely heavy-handed and should regain some of the power that many speculated he lost when he dropped to 170 pounds in order to compete in the UFC welterweight division. Both fighters love to stand up and trade strikes, so this could end up being the show-stealer on the entire card.

Also announced was the match-up between Ultimate Fighter Season 1 winner Diego Sanchez and Canadian fighter John Alessio. Sanchez and Alessio were scheduled to square off on the UFC 58 card in March, but Sanchez came down with a virus just prior to the fight and despite every effort from the New Mexico-based fighter to get into fighting shape, the doctors would not allow the fight to take place.

Sanchez will be returning to the octagon for the first time since silencing many critics by thoroughly dominating Nick Diaz in their three-round war at Ultimate Fight Night a few months back. Alessio has only fought in the UFC one other time, and that was almost six years ago when he was defeated by the legendary Pat Miletich by armbar at UFC 26.

With the event only a month away, more fights are expected to be announced soon.
