Strikeforce Video: Fedor Gearing Up For Return Against Silva

Posted on by MMAWeekly.com Staff

Fedor Emelianenko is in a situation that he’s not all that familiar with. When he steps into the cage with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva on Saturday night in New Jersey, Fedor walks in with the weight of a loss on his back.

Fabricio Werdum submitted Fedor this past June, stunning the mixed martial arts world.

The Russian Emperor makes his return, looking to get back to his dominant ways, after lengthy negotiations with Strikeforce and Showtime kept him out of the cage.

The fight against Silva is one of the first two quarterfinal bouts of Strikeforce’s eight-man World Heavyweight Grand Prix. The other, also taking place on Saturday night, is former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski versus Sergei Kharitonov. Also in the tournament, but fighting at a later date, will be Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, Werdum, Josh Barnett, and Brett Rogers.

Fedor has been training hard for his return and below is a short video special that Showtime produced leading up to this weekend’s fight.

Fedor is never going to prove anything until he signs with the UFC. Strikeforce has some good fighters, but you cannot deny that the UFC is where the best talent is at. Fedor needs better management at this point in his career.

I can deny it. I don’t know where all this talk about UFC having the best fighters comes from… Mir, Nelson, Kongo, Cro Cop, Nogueira… they all have wins and losses just like the guys in Strikeforce.

Cain and JDS are the only true great prospects, and signing to UFC just to fight them is prepostorous and impractical.
