In just ten minutes and twenty-five seconds, Cung Le proved that he is a legitimate mixed martial arts fighter. He used the head and body of UFC veteran Tony Fryklund as his exam, passing with flying colors before the crowd at the HP Pavilion Friday night in San Jose, Calif.
With a record that now stands at 4-0, Le has ample footing to propel himself into a contender’s position in the sport’s middleweight division. Other, more established fighters may need to be leery of the San Shou champion, especially if his takedown defense continues to improve.
There are very few fighters in mixed martial arts that will be able to deal with Le’s striking abilities. As his takedown defense and ground skills continue to improve, his hands and feet only become more lethal.
Following his bout with Tony Fryklund, Cung Le spoke at length with the media and discussed the fight with Fryklund, his tribulations leading up to the fight, and where he is headed, most notably towards “some serious pizza and chocolate chip cookies.”
Gary Shaw and Frank Shamrock both make appearances in the video as well.
