Round 1: They open trading strikes, but Heun quickly scoops Almeida up for a takedown. Almeida quickly goes after Heun’s left leg, locking on a toe hold, but Heun remains calm and escapes. Almeida takes top position, but nearly gets caught in an omo plata by Heun. Almeida starts working from Heun’s guard, but Heun applies rubber guard and starts driving elbows to the head of Almeida, as well as working in some punches. Heun goes briefly to a high guard, possibly to catch his breath, then goes back to a rubber guard and starts attacking with elbows again. The referee then steps in and stands them up, even though Heun was still working the elbow strikes. They trade a few leg and body kicks just before the bell. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Heun.

Round 2: Almeida drives Heun into the fence with a flurry of punches, but Heun reverses position, pressing Almeida to the fence, and starts peppering his thighs with knees. They come off the fence with Almeida landing a knee to the body. Heun tosses him away and straight into the referee, knocking the floor. Almeida attacks but Heun puts him on the mat. Heun is working from inside full guard, but Almeida locks on an armbar and turns it over. It’s in deep, but Heun is trying to find a way to survive with about a minute and a half left in the round. Heun slips out with about 30 seconds left in the round, his legs wrapped around Almeida, and then into a scramble just before the bell. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Almeida.

Round 3: Right away, Heun takes a thumb to the right eye. He continues fighting, but the eye is obviously bothering him. Almeida has the reach advantage and uses it here and there, but Heun is busier, darting in and out with punches, landing some solid shots. Heun then puts Almeida on the mat, but gets caught in another armbar. He gets out, but Almeida does a good job avoiding full guard and slipping past half guard into side control then locking on a deep choke. Heun somehow escapes again and starts blasting Almeida from inside the Brazilian’s full guard. He’s dropping down double hammerfists, mixed in with hammerfists and punches. Almeida looks for the sub, but Heun doesn’t give him anything and then continues punching to the final bell. MMAWeekly.com scores round three 10-9 and the fight 29-28 for Heun.
