Round 1: Melancon opens with a wild flurry of punches that rocks Vallie-Flag and then tosses him to the mat. Melancon starts work from side control, tying up Vallie-Flag’s right arm with his legs. They scramble and Melancon lands in mount momentarily. Another scramble as Vallie-Flag goes for a leg, but Melancon moves to side control and then takes Vallie-Flag’s back and quickly sinks in a rear naked choke. Vallie-Flag remains calm and escapes. They work back up to the feet and start trading strikes. Vallie-Flag is trying to land low kicks, but Melancon is countering well with the overhand the overhand right. They spend some time in the clinch, trading punches and knees before separating with Vallie-Flag trying to land the knees and Melancon continuing with his counter punches. Round 2: Vallie-Flag opens with a solid punch combination, but Melancon comes back strong with the overhand right. Vallie-Flag gets Melancon down to the mat briefly, but Melancon is quickly back to his feet, the two fighter clinched on the fence. Vallie-Flag peppering Melancon’s thighs with knee strikes. Vallie-Flag’s mouthpiece falls out, they halt the action briefly to reinsert it, then start back at the center of the cage. They clinch up briefly, but the action slows and the ref restarts them at center cage. Melancon fires off an uppercut that snaps Vallie-Flag’s head back. Round 3: Vallie-Flag lands a couple good low kicks. Melancon shoots, but doesn’t score the takedown, instead settling for pressing Vallie-Flag up against the cage. They turn out and Vallie-Flag lands a jumping knee to the body before they separate. Melancon presses him to the cage again, but Vallie-Flag lands more knees to the thighs and body. Melancon scores a solid takedown landing in side control. Vallie-Flag tries to escape, but Melancon takes full mount. Vallie-Flag pushes him back into full guard briefly then they return to their feet, Melancon immediately pressing Vallie-Flag up against the cage. The referee restarts them in the center of the cage again, but they quickly return to the clinch. Vallie-Flag lands a couple solid knees to the body and a forearm across the face of Melancon, but then the referee separates them again. Melancon scores a takedown just before the final bell.
