Strikeforce on Tuesday released the preliminary bouts for its upcoming Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal fight card on Dec. 17 in San Diego.
The preliminary bouts feature a lightweight showdown between Caros Fodor and Justin Wilcox, two of the more promising up-and-comers on the Strikeforce roster.
Fodor is 6-1 as a professional fighter, reeling off four consecutive victories since getting the call from Strikeforce. He heads into the bout riding the momentum of a Challengers main event victory over highly touted James Terry.
Wilcox (11-3) is on a strong run himself. Although his most recent fight, against JZ Cavalcante, was ruled a no contest, he won six consecutive bouts prior to that, including wins over Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro, Rodrigo Damm, and Shamar Bailey.
Other bouts on the preliminary card include Jerron Peoples vs. Roger Bowling, Devin Cole vs. Gabriel Salinas-Jones, and Fernando Gonzales vs. Eddie Mendez.
The Dec. 17 main event features Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez putting his belt on the line against No. 1 challenger Jorge Masvidal.
