- STRIKEFORCE-ELITE XC: SHAMROCK VS. LE LIVE RESULTS

MMAWeekly is live in San Jose, Calif. at the HP Pavilion to bring you the results of tonight’s Strikeforce and EliteXC co-promoted event featuring Frank Shamrock defending his Strikeforce middleweight title against Cung Le.

The first fight is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET. The main card will be televised on Showtime beginning at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Non-Televised Bouts:

-Jesse Jones vs. Jesse Gillespie

RD1: Jones comes out swinging and takes Gillespie down, he quickly moves to mount then gets his back. Jones isn’t able to lock on the choke but finishes the fight with strikes.

-Darren Uyenoyama vs. Anthony Figueroa

RD1: Both fighters come out cautious, Uyenoyama takes Figueroa down and moves into side mount. He tries to move into mount but instead locks on a guillotine choke and finishes it from his back.

-Luke Stewart vs. Tiki Ghosn

RD1: They trade strikes and Stewart falls on his back but Tiki is unwilling to go to the ground. They clinch along the fence and Stewart goes for a takedown but Tiki defends well. They trade knees in the clinch with neither having much of an advantage over the other. Stewart continues to go for the takedown and finally goes to the ground with a kimura. He gets on top but Tiki is able to get to his feet. They clinch again and continue to trade knees. They seperate and Tiki lands a punch followed by a low kick to end the round.

RD2: They clinch immediately, Stewart throws a sloppy combination and Tiki responds with a low kick. Once again they clinch along the fence and Tiki takes the fight down but they are quickly back on their feet. Tiki lands a couple of strikes and they clinch again. Stewart goes for the takedown but Tiki defends well, back on their feet and Stewart lands a high kick but Tiki takes him down. Tiki stands up and drops punches but Stewarts gets back up. Tiki landing crisp punch combinations and Stewart responds back with one, cutting Tiki. Action is stopped to check the cut and restarted with both fighters trading strikes. Stewart finally scores a takedown. He works into mount but the round ends.

RD3: Stewart throws a body kick and the fighters circle. Tiki lands a combination and Stewart shoots for a takedown but isn’t able to finish it and they clinch. They seperate and Stewart falls to his back but stands back up. Tiki lands a solid knee then a straight right and they clinch again. Stewart goes for another takedown but Tiki defends well. Once again Stewart goes for a takedown but Tiki ends up on top. Tiki lands a couple of strikes but stands back up. Tiki lands a kick then follows with a combination then a clinch ensues. They are restarted, Tiki throws a combination then they clinch again. Stewart isn’t able to get a takedown as Tiki lands a couple of knees as the fight ends.

Televised Bouts:
-Joey Villasenor vs. Ryan Jensen
R1: Villasenor takes the fight to the ground early on after a brief exchange on the feet. Jensen keeps a strong defense negating much damage from Villasenor. Working back to the feet, Villasenor lands a good knee strike, but Jensen recovers. The fighers trade hands with both landing nice shots, but Villasenor lands a thunderous right hand dropping Jensen to the mat, knocked out immediately.

-Mike Kyle vs. Wayne Cole
R1: Cole lands a nice takedown to open the fight and before Kyle has much time to react, Cole locks on an armbar forcing the tap.

-Gilbert Melendez vs. Gabe Lemley
R1: Lemley starts out aggressive pursuing Melendez, but after getting tagged with a solid left hand he backs off. Melendez shoots in and lands a good takedown as he starts to work ground and pound. Lemley shows a solid guard game, but Melendez still manages to land shots from above. Melendez starts to reign down hammer fists and punches to close out the round, but the end of the first session came and Lemley was saved

R2: Melendez and Lemley trade punches, but Gilbert has the more powerful punches. Melendez then shoots in for a quick takedown and starts to work his ground attack again. Gilbert works to half guard as Lemley rolls over, and Gilbert starts attacking landing numerous unanswered shots forcing Herb Dean to stop the fight.

-Drew Fickett vs. Jae Suk Lim
R1: Fickett goes for an early takedown, but Lim defends to take Fickett down, but as they scramble Fickett rolls and ends up on top. After a brief exchange on the ground, Fickett locks on a guillotine choke and pulls a jumping guard, forcing Lim to submission to end the fight.

-Frank Shamrock vs. Cung Le
R1: After a quick exchange to open, Shamrock almost lands a takedown, but he backs out and the fighters begin to stand-up again. Cung looks sharp with his kicks keeping Shamrock away from him. Shamrock almost lands another takedown as presses Cung against the cage, but again he backs away to stand with Le. Close round.

R2: Shamrock continues to throw right body kicks in the 2nd round, as Le counters with kicks of his own followed by better punching this round. Le starts to land a side kick and then hits a big punch that stuns Shamrock. The round closes with both fighters exchanging light punches and kicks

R3: Le starts to become more precise with his strikes, landing good kicks, a spinning back fist and a while catching Shamrock’s kick he takes out his opponent’s other leg with a big kick getting the takedown. Back on their feet, Shamrock starts to close the distance and he lands a hard right hand that stuns Le. Le recovers and as the round comes to a close he unloads a nice head kick that almost puts Shamrock out but the session ends. Shamrock is unable to answer the bell for round 4 and the fight is over.
