A middleweight bout between Scott Smith and Lumumba Sayers is on tap for Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey slated for March 3 in Columbus, Ohio.

Sources close to the bout confirmed it to on Friday.

Smith (17-9) will have been out of action for about seven months come fight time. He returns to middleweight after having failed in back-to-back attempts to reinvigorate his career at welterweight.

Known for his heavy-handed comebacks, Smith was unable to pull off such a feat against either Paul Daley or Tarec Saffiedine.

Lumumba Sayers

Sayers (5-2) has fought but twice under the Strikeforce banner, splitting his results. He is coming off of a first-round knockout of Antwain Britt last November. Sayers has never had a fight go the distance.

Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey features the women’s welterweight championship between current titleholder Miesha Tate and challenger Ronda Rousey.

I’m surprised they gave Scott another chance considering his latest streak of losses.

Welterweight wasn’t the right move. Hopefully he can have some success at 185 again. At the end of the day, Scott is a good guy.
