Strikeforce on Wednesday added a couple of preliminary bouts to its Rockhold vs. Jardine fight card slated for Jan. 7 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Nah-Shon Burrell faces James Terry in a welterweight bout on the card, while light heavyweights Trevor Smith and Gian Villante square off in the other announced preliminary bout.
Burrell is 7-1 as a professional, entering the bout on a five-fight winning streak, including back-to-back Strikeforce fights. Terry (11-3) has spent better than half his professional career competing under the Strikeforce banner, but makes his return to welterweight after a 1-1 stint testing the waters at lightweight.
Smith (9-1) marks his third start for the promotion against Villante, having won both of his Challengers fights. Villante (8-3) failed in his first two attempts for the promotion, but bounced back in his last fight and looks to the keep the momentum building against Smith.
Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold puts his belt on the line against UFC veteran Keith Jardine in the main event of the Jan. 7 fight card, the first of Strikeforce’s new broadcast partnership with Showtime. The preliminary bouts will air on Showtime Extreme, while the main card airs on Showtime.
