Strikeforce is nearing completion of its first event under a new deal with premium cable network Showtime. The Rockhold vs. Jardine main card is fully set, but Strikeforce recently added a preliminary bout pitting lightweights Bobby Green and Alonzo Martinez against one another.
Green (17-5) is no stranger to the promotion, his last three starts coming under the Strikeforce banner. He was thrown immediately into the fire, making his Strikeforce debut against Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante midway through 2011, when Cavalcante’s original opponent was injured. Green lost a narrow split decision.
His performance earned him a return on a couple of Challengers fight cards, where he scored to back-to-back submissions over Charon Spain and J.P. Reese.
Fighting out of the Midwestern United States, Martinez (35-15-1) has well over double the fights that Green dose, but is making his Strikeforce debut on Jan. 7 following a busy 2011. Martinez went 7-1 in 2011 including victories in has last two bouts.
Martinez is an aggressive fighter with numerous submission victories over the past couple of years.
Luke Rockhold puts his middleweight title on the line against UFC veteran Keith Jardine in the Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine main event at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
