World Series of Fighting women’s strawweight champion Jessica Aguilar will make the first defense of her belt at WSOF 10 on June 21 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
WSOF officials on Friday night announced that Aguilar would face former Deep Jewels fighter Emi Fujino in June.
David Branch and Jesse Taylor square off for the promotion’s inaugural middleweight championship in the WSOF 10 main event.
Aguilar made a name for herself fighting for Bellator, but became the first WSOF strawweight champion by submitting Alida Gray at the promotion’s eighth event, which took place in January.
That victory increased Aguilar’s victorious streak to eight consecutive bouts.
Fujino (13-7) is a tough competitor, but faces a very difficult challenge in trying to wrest the belt from Aguilar’s waist.
The Japanese fighter is coming off of a loss to Mizuki Inoue at Deep Jewels 2 last November. She has fought some of the best fighters on the Japanese circuit, including the legendary Megumi Fujii, but came up short where Aguilar did not.
Fujino has yet to put a gold belt around her waist, and she’ll attempt to do so against Aguilar, while making her first start outside of her native Japan.
