MMAWeekly TV now features a video interview with Joe Stevenson, who will be fighting Yves Edwards on the UFC 61 pay-per-view this Saturday, July 8th. This interview was taped several weeks ago, not too long after Stevenson found out that Edwards would be his opponent.
Regarding his match-up with Edwards, Stevenson said, “I think it’s a good match-up for me. I think it’s a tough match-up, but I think it’s actually a good clash of styles, and it’s bound to be a good fight.”
When asked whether or not he feels that he’s going to submit Edwards, Stevenson said, “You don’t really have to [submit] someone. You can hit them enough to where they’re going to make mistakes. If you hit someone enough times, they might give you their back and you can get a rear naked choke. If you hit someone enough times, they might push away with a full arm, whereas they would never do that normally.”
In this video interview, Joe Stevenson also talks about the extra motivation that comes from fighting someone of Yves Edwards’ caliber, how he started fighting in MMA at an early age, whether being the welterweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter 2 adds or removes pressure from his shoulders, whether having three children adds or removes pressure from his shoulders, and more.
