Former WEC light heavyweight champion Steve Cantwell will move to middleweight for his next bout as he faces Mike Massenzio at UFC 136 in Houston.
UFC officials announced the new match-up on Monday.
Following a brief stint as WEC champion where he defeated current middleweight contender Brian Stann to get the belt, Steve Cantwell will now drop down to 185lbs after suffering three straight losses in the UFC.
At only 24 years of age, Cantwell still has potential to be a contender in the UFC, but has opted to drop down to middleweight for a better chance to compete in that division.
Welcoming Cantwell to 185lbs will be New Jersey’s own Mike Massenzio.
Massenzio returns to action with a full training camp behind him following his willingness to step up on short notice and face Krzysztof Soszynski at light heavyweight in June at UFC 131.
Now back to his natural middleweight status, Massenzio will look to put the loss behind him and beat a former champion at UFC 136.
