Stephan Bonnar and Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 116

Stephan Bonnar has traveled a rocky road through the UFC since emerging from the cast of the inaugural season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” but he will look to add to a recent two-fight streak when he faces Karlos Vemola at UFC on Versus 5 in August.

Bonnar tweeted the fight on his TrashTalkinKids twitter account, while ESPN’s Jon Anik tweeted the event.

Bonnar (13-7) was teetering on the brink following a three-fight skid in 2009-2010, but finally bounced back with a win over Krzysztof Soszynski in July of last year. He added Igor Pokrajac to the hit list in December. It’s been a long layoff, but he’ll look to build on his recent successes against the Czech fighter.

Vemola (8-1) is making the second start of his light heavyweight career against Bonnar. He amassed a 7-1 record as a heavyweight, but dropped down to 205 pounds after suffering a loss to Jon Madsen at UFC 116. The bout with Bonnar will Vemola’s first bout since November 2010.

UFC on Versus 5 has not been officially announced yet, but is expected to take place at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisc. Other rumored bouts include Amir Sadollah vs. Duane “Bang” Ludwig and Cole Miller vs. T.J. O’Brien.

WTF??? Seriously, is there anyone less relevant to the sport of MMA right now than Stephan Bonnar? Aside from one exciting fight with Forest, what has he done in the UFC? Here is another guy that walks around like he is an MMA God, and has proven nothing.

The UFC is giving him bullshit oponents to keep him busy. Does anyone really believe this guy could ever be a real contender in any division? Come on already with this guy…

armendo420 is right. Dana said there are people in the UFC above getting cut: Vanderlei, Forrest, Stephen, etc. Dana has said it many times: MMA would not be where it is if it wasn’t for Forrest and Stephan. Bottom line.
