Stephan BonnarA light heavyweight tilt is on tap for UFC 139 in San Jose, Calif., as former Ultimate Fighter finalist Stephan Bonnar takes on Kyle Kingsbury on the fight card.

UFC officials announced the new match-up on Tuesday.

Currently riding a two-fight win streak, Bonnar was rumored to be a possible contender to face Josh Koscheck in his return to action on the San Jose card, but it appears middleweight is nowhere in his near future.

With wins over Krzysztof Soszynski and Igor Pokrajac in back-to-back fights, Bonnar will hope to make it three in a row when he fights in November.

Giving Bonnar a rude welcome to town will be American Kickboxing Academy fighter Kyle Kingsbury, who gets to stay close to home when he fights in the same city he trains in.

A Season 8 alum of The Ultimate Fighter, the former Arizona State football player will try to make Bonnar his fifth win in a row when he fights in November.

The UFC did not announce if the bout between Bonnar and Kingsbury would make the televised pay-per-view portion of the show or not.

  • Im going with Kingbu for the win “at home” here – and at 6’4″ he’s another big LHW, which is the dominant trend in a weight class that already features Alliance teammates Phil Davis and Alexander Gustafsson, not to mention, of course, Jon Jones.

All the more reason why Rashad would be well advised to move down to MW after he gets what’s coming to him from Jones, most likely at UFC 141 on New Year’s Eve.

I hope Bonnar take over some of Rogan’s color commentary instead of Florian, he just seems more interested in the fights. I also wouldn’t be against the pairing of Bonnar and Todd Harris (the final WEC commentary pair) for Fight Nights and other free TV cards.
