Stefan Struve vs. Mark Hunt Likely for UFC on Fuel 8 in Japan

Posted on by Damon Martin

A heavyweight fight has been confirmed for the UFC’s return to Japan as Stefan Struve will likely face off with Mark Hunt.

Sources close to the fight confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that verbal agreements are in place for the contest landing at Saitama Super Arena on March 2.

A winner of four fights in a row, Stefan Struve has slowly been making his climb into the top ten of the heavyweight division.

The Dutch fighter literally grew up inside the Octagon, and now looks to take another step towards his ultimate goal of earning a UFC title shot at some point in the future.

Standing in his way is former K-1 fighter Mark Hunt, who returns to his old stomping grounds in Japan for his next appearance in the UFC.

Hunt is a winner of three fights in a row including knockouts over Cheick Kongo and Chris Tuchscherer, and now hopes to add a 7-footer to his resume when he faces Struve.

While verbal agreements are in place, UFC officials have yet to announce the bout or where it may land on the UFC on Fuel 8 televised card.

I like this match up. Though I would’ve loved to see Kongo vs. Struve. But I guess Hunt will be a better win for Struve since Hunt beat Kongo. Winner of Struve/Hunt should fight the winner of Werdum/Nogueira for number 1 contention.

“A heavyweight fight has been confirmed for the UFC’s return to Japan as Stefan Struve will likely face off with Mark Hunt.” What is wrong with this sentence? You can’t have ‘likely’ and ‘confirmed’ in the same sentence.

I’m assuming the writer means that it has been confirmed and they will fight barring any injury or other unforseen circumstance.

You can have them in the same sentence if they ar referring to different things. It means that a heavyweight fight will happen and that it will likely be Stephan Struve against Mark Hunt since they only have a verbal agreement so far. I’m assuming since a heavyweight fight is confirmed regardless then if not these two it will be some other combination of fighters.

Struve is really getting run through the ringer on his road to the title. Hunt was on point and firing on all cylinders against Kongo. This should be awesome.

This is crazy. They’re either rreally trying to push Hunt or they really don’t like Struve. I love Mark Hunt and he’s always fun to watch fight, but Struve deserves a serious contender at this point. But, who knows, maybe Hunt runs through Struve and another contender and I eat my words
