UFC WAITING ON THE CANADIENS

“We want to come to Montreal, Canada in October/November 2007!” stated a delighted Marc Ratner of the UFC. “I’ve been talking with the Bell Centre and they want us there, but the Montreal Canadiens hockey team always comes first!” he explained in a jovial voice. “We’d love to have Georges St-Pierre on the card of course, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens on Aug. 25 in his fight against Josh Koscheck at UFC 74.”

“Once the NHL releases their 2007/08 hockey schedule, we’ll be able to sure up a date. I realize TKO 30 is happening in the Bell Centre on Sept. 28, so we’ll try not to go too close to that,” elaborated Ratner.

The NHL schedule is due to be released on July 11, 2007 so hopefully Canadian MMA fans won’t have to wait much longer to hear official confirmation of the UFC’s first show north of the border!

BOCEK READY FOR HIS UFC DEBUT AGAINST EDGAR

“It’s a dream come true,” said Bocek. “I train very hard for every fight and take every fight seriously. I seek out the best training partners in order to best prepare and push myself for battle. I have been training with GSP and Greg Jackson’s camp for this fight. I have had a great training camp in New Mexico and really got pushed hard. I had a great time training with Greg and can’t wait to do it again.”

Speaking of his opponent, Bocek commented, “Frank Edgar is a good fighter and I look forward to the challenge. Expect a great fight with me winning. I am ready.”

Joey De Los Reyes of Kombat Arts and Sam Zakula of Kombat Fitness who are regular training partners of Bocek from the Greater Toronto Area both echoed their confidence in him. “He wouldn’t have accepted the fight if he didn’t think he was going to win,” explained De Los Reyes. “He’s going to take Edgar out and rocket himself up to being a top contender in the UFC’s stacked lightweight division!” stated Zakula emphatically.

JASON DAY UPSETS JONATHAN GOULET, PONDERS WHAT’S NEXT

Jason Day got the big win he was looking for defeating UFC veteran Jonathan Goulet by armbar in round two at Ultimate Cage Wars 8. “He closed the distance quickly and took me down over and over again in round one,” explained Day. “But as the round came to an end, I had him rocked against the cage just as the bell sounded. I walked to my corner feeling pretty good when I looked over at him and saw him gasping a little and a bit out of sorts. He took me down again in the second round, but I was able to reverse it and secure the fight ending armbar.

“It feels great man! This fight taught me I need to work more on my takedown defense, but I was definitely the stronger man,” stated Day in great spirits.

“I don’t know what’s next for me. I’m hoping the UFC isn’t too far away, but I’m not going to sit around for them. I’ve got to stay active so I’m looking at August in Hardcore Championship Fighting’s card in Vancouver or at TKO 30 in September.”

TKO 30: CHRIS CLEMENTS VS SEAN PIERSON FOR WW TITLE!

Pierson made short work of Chester Post in his comeback fight in TKO last March. Clements is riding an impressive four-fight winning streak, having won all bouts via knockout. It would be a classic match-up of striker versus grappler between undoubtedly two of Canada’s best welterweight fighters. The fight would be for the vacant TKO Welterweight Championship.

TKO 30: SAM STOUT VS MARTIN GRANDMONT FOR LW TITLE!

Two of Canada’s best kickboxers are set to square off for the TKO Lightweight Championship. Grandmont dismantled highly regarded Tyler Jackson in his last TKO performance and has looked very impressive since dropping to 155 lbs. Stout needs no introduction as he is a UFC veteran and undoubtedly one of Canada’s best fighters. This promises to be a very exciting fight for Canadian MMA fans.
