There was something to Prove in Gresham, Oregon Saturday Night…….SportFight – Proving Ground 2. For the fighters it was a chance to Prove themselves as a fighter and land a spot at one of the upcoming SportFight’s at the Portland, Rose Garden. For SportFight promoters Matt Lindland and Randy Couture it was a chance to Prove once again that they can consistently deliver high quality mixed martial arts entertainment and that is exactly what they did!
How were the fights? Well there was 13 fights on the card and none of them went to the judges decision and 9 ended with a Knockout! Before all of the Knockouts started happening, Jeremy Calhoun and Andy Pickett went toe to toe. These two fighters demonstrated a fast pace fight with great wrestling skills, with both of them getting reversals. One reversal led to another and then add some ground and pound and an arm bar by Pickett for a Tap out win in 1:52 of Round 1.
Another fighter to definitely Prove himself was Reed O’Malley from Ft. Collins, CO. He was matched against William Harner at 205 lbs. O’Malley confidently stood on his feet and strategically delivered punches to Harner. Then O’Malley got the takedown, moved in to full mount and landed one severe Knockout punch right on the button. O’Malley Proved himself by taking this win in just 41 secs. of Round 1.
One highly anticipated rematch was the Co-Main event on the card, JD “The Executioner” Stanley of Team Quest against one of the New World Fighters, Robert Kincaid. Stanley had something to Prove after a previous controversial loss to Kincaid. This was a fight that everyone in the crowd wanted to see and they made it known! JD came out of his corner with the intent to win and got an early takedown that led to a choke that he released and started working his knees. Stanley then started a punch fest that Kincaid had no answers for. It was a tremendous Knockout at 51 secs. of Round 1.
So after a Co-Main Event as impressive as Stanley’s, what can you expect out of his Team Quest partner Ed Nuno? More of the same! The Main Event featured Ed “Bam Bam” Nuno against 170 lb. James “Streaker” Anderson. Nuno brought the same intensity and aggressive style to the ring as JD Stanley, obviously these two come from the same camp. Nuno used all of the 21 sec. fight to throw and land punch after punch, even while defending a takedown. It was Bam, Bam, Bam, for 21 secs. straight. Ed Nuno secures another first round victory and Proves that he is a very talented fighter and that he is ready to fight!
With all of the action and Knockouts, what could make this event any better for a fan? Well how about getting an autograph or picture taken with one of the Greatest Fighters of All Time, Randy “The Natural” Couture! Randy spent most of the night meeting fans and sitting ringside with Co-Promoter and fighter, Matt “The Law” Lindland. What’s next for these two? April 8, 2006, they will bring SportFight 15 to the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Oregon. This show will feature a special highlight to the awesome career of Randy Couture. Don’t miss this show and a chance to celebrate an incredible career with Randy Couture. Log on to www.sportfight.tv for more results and tickets.
