As the UFC steps up the amount of its programming on the Fox family of networks, its former partners at Spike TV are continuing to counter-program them every step of the way.

Spike’s latest salvo is a five-hour Diego Sanchez marathon next Wednesday to counter UFC on Fuel TV 1: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger, the promotion’s first featured live event on Fuel TV.

UFC on Fuel TV 1 pits Top 10 welterweights Diego Sanchez and Jake Ellenberger against one another in the main event at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Neb. Interestingly enough, Sanchez launched his UFC career by winning the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV.

The two head up a four-bout main card on the action sports network.

Spike TV’s five-hour counter attack, Unleashed: Diego Sanchez, includes The Ultimate Fighter Season 9 Finale where Sanchez fought Clay Guida, plus bouts pitting Sanchez against Paulo Thiago and another against David Bielkheden.

F**k ya!! People can hate all they want about his crazy personality , but personally he IS my favorite fighter to watch compete! His heart is second to NONE! He is willing to die in the cage every time he fights!! I’m calling Diego to score a BIG win in the Ellenburger fight!

Why would anyone watch a re-run of an old fight when they can watch a fight that is being shown live? I don’t see how Spike can win with that strategy.
