Shogun Moves on From Title Snub, Just Wants to Keep Fighting (UFC on Fox 4 Video)

August 5, 2012

Shogun Rua at UFC 139Heading into Saturday night’s UFC on Fox 4, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua had a golden opportunity before him to get another crack at the UFC light heavyweight championship.

The winner of his headlining bout with Brandon Vera was originally slated to automatically become the number one contender. Some backlash from fans changed the scenario, however, leading UFC president Dana White to open the race up to the best-performing light heavyweight at the top of the card.

Shogun pulled off the victory in a hard-fought battle with Vera that went deep into the fourth round, but it wasn’t enough. Brazilian countryman Lyoto Machida’s knockout of Ryan Bader scored higher on the impression perception scale, leading “The Dragon” into the next title shot.

“All four guys were ready to fight for the belt,” Shogun stated after the fight. “I think Lyoto is a top five and he deserves right now to be the next contender and let’s wait for my opportunity.”

Not sure what exactly is next for his career, Shogun made it clear that he wants to move on and keep moving forward.

“I’m happy fighting. I just want to keep fighting. Let’s see what happens; let’s see what the UFC decides for my future for me.”
