Coming off their biggest show ever, Shark Fights is back in 2011 with their first event of the year kicking off on March 11 in Lubbock, Texas. Danillo Villefort takes on Matt Horwich in the main event.
The Texas based promotion has become a fast-rising entity in the world of MMA, and according to Shark Fights President Brent Medley they are also negotiating a deal to get the promotion on television in the near future.
“We can’t wait to kick off the year with Shark Fights 14,” Medley said in a press release on Thursday. “We are also in negotiations with a major network as we speak and hope to secure a nationally televised deal, so stay tuned.”
The promotion held their first major pay-per-view with their last show which featured several top fighters from around the sport including Trevor Prangley, Keith Jardine, and Houston Alexander.
This time around they will lead the card with a pair of middleweights looking for stability after some ups and downs over the last few years.
Danillo Villefort, who has fought in the UFC, WEC and IFL, looks to build on a three-fight winning streak when he returns to Shark Fights in March. The American Top Team fighter stepped in on short notice when he fought at Shark Fights 13 and picked up a win over Joey Villasenor.
As enigmatic as he is talented, Matt Horwich makes his Shark Fights debut against Villefort. Horwich is 2-2 in his last four fights, picking up wins over Thales Leites and Jake Rosholt along the way.
More fights are expected to be announced for the upcoming Shark Fights 14 event in the coming weeks.
