Shane Carwin finally has an opponent for his next fight, and that opponent is Jon Olav Einemo.

UFC president Dana White made the announcement during a live chat with fans on the Seattle Times website Wednesday afternoon.

“As for Shane Carwin: Jon Olav Einemo. That’s his next opponent,” White said during the live chat. “He’s from Norway. He’s 6 foot 6, and he’s the Abu Dabi submission champion.”

Einemo will be making his UFC debut after signing with the organization earlier this month. At 7-1, the Norwegian big man will look to walk tall in the UFC heavyweight division.

Carwin (12-1) hasn’t seen action since being submitted by Brock Lesnar at UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin last July. The loss was the first of his professional career and it was followed up by back problems that kept him out of action until now.

As of now, there is no official date for the fight, but previously reported that Carwin had accepted a slot on the UFC 131 fight card expected to take place in Vanouver in June.

Carwin fighting a guy who hasn’t fought since 06 seems a bit odd. Should be a good fight regardless though.

can we say tune up fight?

Not sure. I have not heard of this guy. Just looked him up. His only meaningful fight is a loss to Werdum. But styles make fights.

6’6″ top BJJ guy might give Carwin some trouble. Imagine Mark Coleman (6’1″) fighting Nog (6’3″).

Damn, either Dana hates Carwin or Carwin did something that Dana hates.

Carwin had said stuff that ticked Dana off such as calling Fedor the best, refusing to play the hype-game with Brock, and correcting that his height is 6″2″ and NOT 6’5″. LOL!

Also, if Carwin needs a tune-up Mir, Nelson, Rothwell, Kongo, or Russow is there….why this guy???

Doesn’t make sense. A huge question mark. I am betting on the underdog…something smells weird…kinda like Werdum vs JDS couple years back.

I’ve seen this guy grapple a lot. If this fight goes to the ground, it won’t last long. Though he hasn’t fought in a long time, I really like this match.

Didn’t know. Thanks for the info.

I knew something was weird. Damn..Carwin is hitting retirement age soon and I don’t think it’s fair that Brock should get the contender shot before Carwin.

I agree, it is a shame. Shane is a much more interesting fighter IMO. He was the first one to expose Brock’s inability to take a punch and overall terrible stand up. If only he had better conditioning. Carwin should be getting Shaub, if they weren’t teammates. I would have like to see him and Dos Santos as coaches though. That would be a fantastic fight.
