Shane Carwin Off TUF 16 Finale with Knee Injury

Posted on by Ken Pishna

Shane Carwin at UFC 131The hits just keep on coming, as The Ultimate Fighter Finale main eventer and TUF 16 head coach Shane Carwin has blown out his knee.

UFC president Dana White tweeted the news on Wednesday afternoon.

“WOW!! It never ends Carwin blew his knee out. Looking for a new opponent for Roy on the TUF Finale on FX,” White posted.

Carwin’s knee had come into question a few weeks ago, when he missed a promotional trip to England, but it was considered minor and he expected his knee to be good to go at fight time on Dec. 15.

This latest injury, however, is knocking him out of the fight, leaving the UFC, during one of its most injury plagued years ever, to search for a new opponent for Carwin’s coaching nemesis on TUF, Roy Nelson.

i think we all saw this coming a mile away. not sure if shane will ever be back in the octagon.

maybe kongo fills in? or hunt if he’s back from injury?

    • peter mayer

I hope its Hunt, the dude is a monster. As for Carwin I think he should retire, back surgery and knee surgery.

And Roy Nelson starts implying in a passive-agressive way that this actually has something to do with steroids in 3…….2…….1…….

      lol

Many athetes, especially the heavier ones, who’ve been using peds before, tend to become injury prone after the substance abuse. Nothing to do with Carwin, of course, he’s always been tested clean in the strict and truly random UFC drug tests.

      lol awesome

Get DanielCormier on the phone and cut the deal – forget the one fight left on his Strikeforce contract

  • danablack

Matt Mitrione seems like a good replacement, or bring in Daniel Cormier or Josh Barnet.

This is why I don’t watch TUF show.

    • SwampDonkey

I was TUF show for the fights. And Carwin getting hurt doesn’t/didn’t effect any of the fights that took place. That said, the fights this year have been pretty unimpressive for the most part. But I never really cared much about the coaches.

    Hunt or Cormier…PLEASE!

A great fight would be overeem…

    • zulu

Everyone mentioned would be awesome. Mitrione isn’t quite ready he looked awful against Kongo, I think Hunt is hurt, Carwin is in Strikeforce for one more fight. Barnett, I don’t know he still might be under contract with Strikeforce. Overeem suspended, but all would be great fights. I would LOVE to see a rematch with S. Struve. Lets get it on.

Time for Carwin to hang them up, the guy has the 2 worst injuries for a fighter, back and knee = retirement.
