SAN JOSE, Calif. – Strikeforce’s Showtime debut, “Shamrock vs. Diaz,” takes place at the HP Pavilion on Saturday night. As billed, former Strikeforce and UFC champion Frank Shamrock faces UFC and Pride veteran Nick Diaz that has drawn as much interest for their out of ring feud as it has for the potential for an explosive headline bout.
Following lightweight champion Josh Thomson’s withdrawal due to injury, former titleholder Gilbert Melendez faces Rodrigo Damm for the Strikeforce interim lightweight championship.
After a marathon negotiation session that wasn’t resolved until 2 a.m. Saturday morning, the fight between Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and Hitomi Akano will also take place.

Frank Shamrock vs. Nick Diaz
R1: Shamrock gets the action going with a low kick as Diaz sizes him up. Shamrock throws a body kick and Diaz catches it and takes the fight to the ground. Diaz passes to half guard. After some struggling he gets into side mount. Diaz starts working for a kimura but Shamrock gets up and lands a couple of strikes as Diaz gets to his feet. Diaz taunting Shamrock as he stalks him down with jabs. Both fighters remain cautious as Diaz goes for low kicks and Shamrock with jabs. Shamrock throws a kick and slips and Diaz pounces. he gets mount and starts raining down blows but Shamrock escapes to his feet as the round comes to an end.

R2: Diaz continues to taunt Shamrock as Diaz is landing the cleaner shots of the two fighters. Shamrock can’t seem to find his rnage on the feet as Diaz tags him with punches. Diaz being the aggressor of the two fighters as he is staying busy. Shamrock looks rather frustrated on the feet as Diaz is just outworking him. Diaz has Shamrock along the cage and is landing jabs. Diaz starts to land some good combinations and a hook to the body drops Shamrock. Diaz starts to pour on the punches and Shamrock has no defense for them. Diaz is just overwhelming Shamrock and “Big” John McCarthy is forced to save Shamrock from further punishment.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Rodrigo Damm
R1: Both fighters sizing up one another with jabs as they test the distance. Melendez drops Damm with a punch but Damm is able to secure guard. Melendez working from the top with punches as Damm works off his back. Melendez starting to land more punches from the guard as he looks to pass. he gets into half guard as he continues to work with punches. Damm is able to get Melendez into guard but Melendez passes again. Melendez staying active with ground and pound from the top. Melendez works from top as Damm goes for a submission as the round ends.

R2: The fighters are cautious to start the round a sthey stalk one another. Melendez shoots for a takedown but Damm defends it well. Melendez lands a jab and goes for another takedown that Damm fights off. Damm countering Melendez’s hooks with jabs. Melendez lands a huge right hook that drops Damm and knocks out Damm with two follow up right hands on the ground.

Scott Smith vs. Benji Radach
R1: Radach throws the first big shot with an overhand right. Radach lands some blows on the inside as Smith sizes him up as he throws a kick. Radach throwing and landing combinations as Smith stalks him down. Smith lands a low kick as he tries to find his range. Radach throws another right and Smith stuns Radach with a flurry and gives chase. Radach recovers and throws a combination. Smith drops Radach with a combination and Smith tries to finsh but is dropped by Radach, who lets Smith recover. Radach takes the fight down and starts dropping strikes as the round comes to an end.

R2: Smith lands a couple of solid punches, which forces Radach to clinch up. They seperate after a lull in action and meet in the center of the cage. The two fighters are cautious as they size each other up on the feet. Radach hurts Smith with several combinations and locks on a guillotine choke the Smith escapes. Smith going for a takedown but Radach defends well. They are broken up and restarted in the center of the ring. Radach being the busier of the two fighters with punches. They stalk one another as the round ends.

R3: The fighters start the last round cautious on their feet. Smith lets his hands go and starts tagging Radach, who goes for a takedown. Smith goes for a guillotine choke but Radach slams out of it. They are restarted in the center of the cage and Smith is stalking Radach. Both fighters are tired as they trade shots. Smith lands a huge right hook that knocks Radach out cold.

Cris “Cyborg” Santos vs. Hitomi Akano
R1: Akano lands a body kick and Cyborg comes in with a flurry that forces Akano to clinch. It goes to the ground and Akano goes for an armbar that Cyborg escapes. Cyborg dropping punches from the top and stands back up. Cyborg drops Akano with a flurry and lets Akano get back up. Cyborg attacking with punches and Akano escapes into the second round.

R2: Cyborg stalking Akano and lands punches. Akano wants this on the ground. Akano lands a one-two combination but Cyborg continues to stalk her. They clinch and Cyborg lands a nice knee to the body. Akano pulls guard but Cyborg tries to finish the fight but Akano secures guard. Cyborg just using her size advantage as she drops punches from the top till the round ends.

R3: Cyborg comes in with a flurry and Akano can’t avoid the strikes as Cyborg is landing at will. Akano falls to the mat and Cyborg follows up with punches, forcing a stoppage to the fight.

Brett Rogers vs. Ron Humphrey
R1: Humphrey lands a low kick to get the action started ad they trade blows. Humphrey lands a high kick and they clinch alnog the cage before seperating. Rogers lands a straight as Humphrey goes for a takedown. Rogers defends and lands a flurry and Humphrey circles out. They trade blows in the blows in the clinch before seperating. Humphrey stuns Rogers, who goes for a takedown but can’ get it. Rogers lands a nice flurry that stuns Humphrey and lands a couple of knees. Rogers is warned for grabbing Humphrey’s hair on two occassions and is taken a point away on the third occassion. They clinch up against the cage and start trading shots as the round ends.

R2: They clinch along the fence to start the second round, Humphrey goes for a but Rogers defends well. Rogers is starting to tee off on Humphrey in the clinch with knees and uppercuts. He is starting to pour it on and Humphrey, just falls down to the mat and Herb Dean puts a stop to the fight.

Luke Rockhold vs. Buck Meredith
R1: Rockhold starts the fight with a high kick as they cautiously circle engage. Rockhold pushes Meredith to the cage and get the takedown. Rockhold works from side mount and is looking for positioning. Rockhold transitions and gets Meredith’s back. Rockhold switching from mount to back, working punches and looking for the choke. Rockhold gets a side choke from the back and forces Meredith to tap.

Eric Lawson vs. Waylon Kennell
R1: Lawson lands a overhand right to start the fight. They start to trade leather from inside the clinch along the fence. Kennell tags Lawson, who gets the takedown shortly after. Kennell gets back to his feet and they are clinched along the fence. Kennell lands a couple of elbows but as they seperate Lawson drops him with a punch. Lawson follows him down but can’t finish the fight. Kennell gets back to his feet and they clinch up again. They are trading and Kennell is getting the best of it. Lawson tries to get the fight to the ground and gets caught in triangle that lets Kennell get on top. Kennell mounts Lawson and rains down some punches, he then goes for an armbar that he gets extended but Lawson escapes and mounts Kennell. Lawson starts to rain down punches and “Big” John McCarthy steps in and stops the fight.

Raul Castillo vs. Brandon Michaels
R1: Fighters begin the fight tentative on the feet before Castillo gets the fight to the ground. Castillo working for position and mounts Michaels, lands some strikes and gets his back, secures the choke, which forces Michaels to tap.

James Terry vs. Zac Bucia
R1: Fighters exchange kicks and quickly clinch along the fence. Terry gets the fight to the ground and works from top. Bucia goes for a triangle and Terry attempts to slam him but Bucia lets go and stands up. Both fighters being cautious on the feet until Terry gets a takedown. Terry works from side mount but isn’t doing much until Bucia regains guard. Terry gets into side mount again and lands some punches. Bucia once again gets guard and goes for a sloppy armbar. Terry defends well and lands a couple of solid strikes as the round comes to an end

R2: Bucia lands a low kick to start the round. Fighters exchange spradic strikes as Bucia continues to lands low kicks. Terry takes the fight to the ground and works with strikes from the top. Bucia goes for an armbar and Terry slams out of it. Terry is now working from side mount with knees to the body. Bucia regains guard and Terry lands a couple of strikes from the top. The fight is stood up but Terry gets another takedown as the round ends.

R3: The fighters are very cautious to start the final round of action. Bucia lands a low kick but Terry responds with a straight right. Terry starting to land a bit more on the feet then Bucia. Bucia starts o let his hands go and Terry goes for a takedown that is shrugged off by Bucia. Terry lands a nice one-two combination and follows it up with a takedown. Terry starts working from side mount with punches and knees to the body. Both fighters look winded as the fight enters the last minute. Terry still staying busy though with strikes and the fight ends up on the feet with Bucia chasing Terry with a failed combination.

Jeremy Tavares vs. Shingo Kohara
R1: Tavares shoots in for a takedown but ends up on his back. Kohara mounts him but is reversed after landing some strikes. Kohara goes for an armbar but Tavres defends well. Tavares working form the top with strikes. Kohara goes for another armbar but Tavares defends with hammerfists. Tavares ends the round working from the top with strikes.

R2: Tavares goes for a takedown but is caught with a knee from Kohara that knocks him out cold.
