Sengoku Raiden Championship has added another bout to its Dec. 30 “Soul of Fight” fight card. Bellator Fighting Championships Dan Hornbuckle will face UFC and Pride veteran Ryo Chonan at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo.
Hornbuckle (22-3) is coming off of a win over Brad Blackburn at BFC 25 in August. He is 3-1 fighting for Bellator, losing only to Ben Askren in the Season 2 welterweight tournament final. Hornbuckle has fought three times before for Sengoku, mounting a 2-1 record under their banner.
A Japanese fighter, Chonan (18-11) fought only in his home country for the first six years of his career. Trying his wares in the UFC, he mounted a 1-3 record in the Octagon before he was sent packing. He is 3-1 since returning to Japan, and remains one of only four fighters to have ever defeated UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, finishing him with a flying scissors heel hook at Pride’s 2004 New Year’s Eve event, Shockwave.
Sengoku is putting together a massive fight card for “Soul of Fight” that will feature Muay Thai and kickboxing bouts in addition to the long list of notable mixed martial arts bouts on the card.
