Score FS Made Big Moves in 2012, Looks Forward to More Growth in the New Year

Perhaps no promotion made more strides to expand its audience like the Score Fighting Series.

Based in Canada, the official fight promotion of The Score sports network, Score FS gained a wider exposure in 2012 by expanding into new territories and finished out the year broadcasting events in the United States on AXS Television.

While the promotion’s growth may have seemed easy, according to promoter Brendan Fyfe, it wasn’t as simple as it might have appeared.

“There was a lot of stuff that was going on in the background this past year because we are owned by a television network, which ended up being sold, so there was a lot of things going on that were affecting the series that didn’t really have anything to do with the series,” he said.

“In spite of that, I think we had some of our best events and I feel as a promotion, we gained a lot of notoriety this year. We found a real core of guys who have fought for us a number of times now that have performed admirably this year. The fighters gave us great content and action for the fans. Our TV ratings have been outstanding thanks in part to our deal with AXS TV. It’s been a great year for us all around.”

In particular, Fyfe pointed out two fighters he feels really optimized the success of Score FS.

“I think the two guys that really stand out for me this year are Jesse Ronson and Rick Glenn,” said Fyfe. “Those are the two guys who had breakthrough performances.

“Rick Glenn came up here from Duke Roufus’ camp in Milwaukee and we really didn’t know much about him, and he really put it on two of the top 145-pounders in Canada (in Tristan Johnson and Lyndon Whitlock). Jesse had breakout performances against Alex Ricci and Ryan Healy. We actually thought they were going to be much tougher fights for him, but Jesse was the hammer and not the nail in both of those fights.”

With the sale of The Score network to be finalized sometime in early 2013, Fyfe told MMAWeekly.com that the promotion will be looking to pick things back up after a couple months off to start the year.

“Once we get the sale approved and everything in scheduled, we won’t have any more delays,” he said. “For me it will be easier once we start getting fighters booked and be able to book them further out in advance, have the dates committed to, it will be better for us and better for the fighter.”

“We’re looking at the first show being late March/early April and then every eight weeks or so after that. We should be able to get in five or more shows done in 2013.”

If there is one word to encapsulate what the Score FS wants to achieve next year it is: growth.

“A year from now I would like to see the Score FS more widely distributed,” said Fyfe. “We have a lot of international licensing deals that we put on hold while we are waiting to get this sale resolved. I’d like to see us have a couple fights outside our core bases.

“I think 2013 will be a continuation of our growth.”
