A possible No. 1 contender’s bout is on deck for the upcoming Strikeforce show in March as former champion Sarah Kaufman will meet Alexis Davis.
Strikeforce confirmed the bout on Saturday night.
Needless to say, former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman was none too happy to hear the news that Miesha Tate defend her women’s bantamweight title against Ronda Rousey instead of her.
Kaufman will instead square off with dangerous 135-pound fighter Alexis Davis on the same card as Tate vs. Rousey on March 3 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Since losing the title to Marloes Coenen in 2010, Kaufman has won her last two bouts in a row to re-enter the contender talk in the division.
Hoping to solidify her own spot in the title race is Alexis Davis, who comes into the bout with Kaufman on a three-fight win streak.
Davis has picked up two big wins recently with a victory over Greg Jackson student Julie Kedzie, as well as a TKO stoppage over highly touted Amanda Nunes last September. It will also be a chance at revenge for Davis, who lost her first professional fight to Kaufman all the way back in 2007.
Davis and Kaufman meet with the winner almost assuredly getting the next crack at the title when the dust settles between Tate and Rousey.
