Unable to compete in the second round of the 183-pound Hero’s tournament due to illness, Japanese fighting legend Kazushi Sakuraba will return to the ring at K-1’s New Year’s Eve show. It has been announced that his opponent will be 183-pound tournament winner Yoshihiro Akiyama, the man that Sakuraba was originally scheduled to fight in the second round of the tournament. The fight will be the main event of K-1 Dynamite!

At a September press conference, Sakuraba explained that his recent illness was due to past damage to areas of his neck. The damage prevented blood from properly circulating to the base of his brain. Evidently, he has recovered from that illness.

Fighters also scheduled to appear at Dynamite! include Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto, Genki Sudo, Caol Uno, Hideo Tokoro, Musashi, Katsuhiko Nagata, Akebono, and Ken Kaneko.
