Ryan Couture has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming Nov. 19 fight in Strikeforce due to a staph infection as announced by the promotion on Monday.
According to Strikeforce officials, Couture, son of former UFC champion Randy Couture, will be sidelined for three to four weeks while dealing with the staph infection.
“I was really looking forward to fighting so this is a big disappointment, but I’ll be back,” said Couture. “As soon as I’m cleared, you can bet I’ll be back in the gym preparing for my next Strikeforce fight.”
Couture won his professional debut for the promotion back in August with a first round submission win over Lucas Stark.
The promotion has not stated if Couture’s scheduled opponent Juan Zapata will remain on the November Strikeforce Challengers 12 fight card or not.
