Both Rua brothers, Mauricio “Shogun” and Murilo “Ninja,” have been grabbing a lot of attention lately… Shogun for his wins on the two latest Pride events against Kazuhiro Nakamura and Alistair Overeem; and his brother, Ninja, for his upcoming bouts against Alex Reid at Cage Rage and Joey Villasenor on Showtime for EliteXC.
Following his fight with Overeem, Shogun met with the media to discuss his fight with Overeem and his future. Of course, it’s obvious who Shogun would like to fight next considering how the main event of Pride 33 went, and Shogun confirmed that it is Dan Henderson that he’d like to fight next. Shogun also discussed his thoughts on fighting under the Unified Rules in the United States as opposed to the rules that he is used to in Japan, and a lot more. Shogun is currently the world’s #2 Light Heavyweight in the MMAWeekly Rankings.
MMAWeekly caught up with Ninja while he was at EliteXC checking out his future opponent, Joey Villasenor. That fight is planned for June and will be for a newly created EXC middleweight championship. Before then, Ninja will also be fighting for Cage Rage in England on April 21st against Alex Reid.
Ninja talked not only about Villasenor and EliteXC, but his thoughts on fighting for Cage Rage and his training with his brother. Ninja even gives a little insight as to how he and Shogun came up with their nicknames, which pay homage to the Japanese culture.
The post-fight comments with Shogun are available now in MMAWeekly TV’s Behind the Scenes and Ninja’s interview is In The Cage.
