Roy-Nelson-UFC-143-Workout-460x270UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson has inked a new nine-fight deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship and plans to retire with the organization.

Nelson (19-8) won the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series tournament to earn a six-figure UFC contract.  In his ten fights in the organization, Nelson has logged four Knockout of the Night performances and has won one Fight of the Night award.

Nelson fulfilled his previous 10-fight contract at UFC 161: Evans vs. Henderson on June 15, losing a unanimous decision to Stipe Miocic.

It was clear that Nelson had a new contract when the UFC announced on Monday that he’ll face undefeated Daniel Cormier on Oct. 19 at UFC 166, but the details of the new deal were unknown.

According to UFC Tonight, the 37-year-old expects to compete for another five years, well into his 40’s, and retire in the UFC.

He will never fulfil this contract! All of his wins are the definition of a gate keeper. He beats guys with a little hype or sends old guys packing. Sorry Mirko.

Stipe Miocic is the first up and comer to beat him…

He lost to Miocic… and he does appear to be that of a gatekeeper. I agree with you there, but what does any of that have to do with him fulfilling his contract? It’s not like they are going to cut him before his last fight. Everyone wants to see him fight.

      • TheCerealKiller

That’s what I said, Stipe Miocic is the first up and comer to beat Nelson.

People wanted to see him fight when he was beating the odds and pissing Dana off. Now his bar is set and people are nowhere as interested in watching him gas after the first round.

Thanks C.Killer for telling me what I’m interested in watching. I’ll chase a Big Country fight no matter what promo co. he works for.He always brings it and leaves it in all the cage even when he’s getting pummeled…. BIG COUNTRY !!!

admit it. You’d never heard of Roy before TUF.

        • Werdoomb

umm…except for casual TUF noobs, MMA fans knew Roy’s worth even before TUF.

He didn’t beat ANY odds in my book, nor books of real MMA fans out there, that is, guys who has been following the sport for 10+ years.

I just remember talking to a TUF noob prior to Roy’s fight with Kimbo. The noob of course heard of Kimbo. But he didn’t know Roy. He thought the UFC is feeding Roy to Kimbo and I was like dude Roy is gonna win the whole thing because I just don’t think he belongs there with these TUF losers.

any person that says noob as much as you should just stay on his call of duty game and stfu. also in hindsight your vision is always 20 20 bud, you trying way to hard right now to seem knowledgeable its hilarious. the ufc should bring arlovski back in to show how big of a chump nelson really is in the grand scheme of things.

To be fair: that was a very short notice fight. The guy was completely exhausted for most of it, and even as a walking punching bag Miocic could barely phase him

Guy is world class ‘human being power’, like him or not. A regular preparation cycle for Stipe might have been another KO of the night

      • Ian Price

Yeah, Roy absolutely underestimated Stipe. A rematch would not be fun for Stipe, but I still think Stipe would be favored, just barely.

      • TheCerealKiller

He set a new MMA record his last fight. Most strikes landed… against him! He can’t last getting beat up like that.

    • Werdoomb

I just don’t understand the nuthuggery that goes on for Roy. Is it because he beat Kimbo and won TUF? Is that way these TUF noobs zealously refuse to let go of Roy’s nuts?

Roy beat: Schaub, Struve, Mitrione, Kongo, and Pee Wee Herman. And…I hate to say this but Cro Cop who was past his prime.

He got his arse destroyed by: Arlovski (yeah yeah the ref stood them back up..big deal..he was getting killed on the feet eve before that), JDS, Mir, Werdum, and now Stipe.

Can’t you see the pattern here? Roy can’t crack top 10 guys. He would have lost to Bigfoot and Carwin had those fighters materialized.

Yeah Roy is well-rounded. He is a BJJ black belt that has decent stand up and KO power. So what??? For some reason, well-roundedness is so overrated among TUF noobs.

I predicted a Stipe win, only because Stipe is a top-10 fighter (IMO). Also, I always enjoy watching Roy.

Roy = the punching bag of the HW division used as a gatekeeper for up and coming guys and a stepping stone for top guys to show case their skills. Only thing going for him is his ability to take brutal shots.
