The “Ultimate Fighter” meets “The Skyscraper” in North Carolina on March 31.
Roy Nelson, the season 10 winner from the popular reality show, faces Stefan Struve in a heavyweight contest on the upcoming UFC Fight Night 21. The event will serve as the lead-in to the newest season for the Spike TV show.
MMAWeekly.com confirmed the long rumored bout with sources close to the fight that said bout agreements have been issued. Nelson also made a post via his Facebook page on Tuesday stating, “Stefan Struve should be the next fight in March.”
Nelson (14-4) is a longtime veteran of MMA, but made his biggest rise to success in 2009 as a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter. The former IFL heavyweight champion was the odds on favorite heading into the show. He didn’t disappoint as he went 3-0 during his time in the house before knocking out Brendan Schaub to win the finale in December.
Training in Las Vegas, Nelson has said that he hopes to face tough competition, and he’ll get his wish in his first fight following the show.
At six feet 11 inches tall, Struve (19-3) may be one of the tallest competitors to ever set foot in the Octagon, but he’s also one of the most skilled at a young age.
The 22-year-old fighter has gone 3-1 in the UFC with notable wins over the likes of Chase Gormley and, most recently, Paul Buentello at UFC 107 in December.
The bout between Nelson and Struve will serve as a main card fight for the show. Kenny Florian takes on former Pride champion Takanori Gomi in a lightweight showdown in the UFC Fight Night 21 headliner.
