Roxanne Modafferi has been released from Strikeforce as of Friday following a loss to Sarah Kaufman in her last fight for the promotion in July.
Modafferi made the announcement via her personal MySpace page.
“On Friday, I got the letter in the mail notifying me of my release,” Modafferi wrote. “I’m pretty bummed out, there are still women I want to fight in that organization. But I really had an amazing time. I can’t discount these experiences, they were so valuable for me, and enriched my life. I’ve made a lot of new fans, and met so many people. It just confirms that being able to fight is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. Thank you for that, Strikeforce. You have a great organization.”
Modafferi was with Strikeforce for only two fights, but both resulted in losses. The last came to former women’s champion Sarah Kaufman, and the previous defeat was at the hands of the new Strikeforce 135lb women’s champion Marloes Coenen in Nov 2009.
Between her Strikeforce fights however, Modafferi went 2-0 including a win over former pound for pound women’s fighter Tara LaRosa.
Modafferi did not comment on where she might fight next, only that she plans on working diligently to get back to the top of the women’s division, and hopefully to avenger her losses.
